Hi all,

I had my gallbladder out on May 11th. Not doing too bad so far--I am having a lot of nausea issues--more than before the surgery  Anyways my question is....does anyone else have extremely itchy incisions? I know that means they are healing, but nothing seems to help the itching. Around each of my incisions it is very red and puffy. I showed them to my doc and she said they are not infected--just healing. Any advice for me?

Thanks,
schao

I've had several abdominal surgeries with one huge incision going from just below my breast down to my pelvic area. And each time when the incisions were healing they would itch like crazy. It drives you nuts!! lol.. I found that using a cocoa butter lotion (I used palmer's), and putting it on thick on the sides of the incision (not over the incision itself), really helped ease the itchies.. Maybe give it a try?

Yup... itching is totally normal. Mine even itch on occasion now, a year after the surgery. They will get less red and flatten out, too. Mine a year later aren't really red at all. The one in the belly button you can't see at all. The one in the center is totally flat, maybe a little indented. The other two on the side stick up just a little, kind of like reverse dimples. They look sort of cute.

In one of my few actual instructions from my doctor's office, they very specifically said to put NOTHING on the incision, no neosporin, lotion, salves, etc... so just be sure not put anything directly on them as the above poster mentioned.
