I know everyone says that. I don't know what to do anymore. I have been through so many med changes in the last year that I don't even remember which one's I've tried. I'm now going back to the imipramine and klonopin that I was first on about 10 years ago because it's what I remember being the best, however, not keeping me from being depressed.
The side effects are terrible from all the meds. I can't seem to hide it from coworkers anymore. They're noticing the quite moods. The irritability, but luckily not seeing the tears. I feel so lost and I know I'm ruining my husbands life as well.
Are there any tricks out there that can get you over the side effects of not eating, being tired all the time,
Is there "anything" out there for medication resistant depression? I truly cannot handle this for much longer. And, yes, I do have a doc to talk to but still feel lost. He's good but as far as the meds go it seems it's all a crap shoot and I'm not coming out on top.

I don't know what to say. There's always ECT... Maybe you didn't say on the medications long enough for them to have their full effect though.. And as far as side effects go, often they go away after the first few weeks.
Some good books are Martin Seligman's Authentic Happiness.. and M Scott Peck's The Road Less Traveled.
Don't give up hope.

Unfortunatly depression is a disease that can be tricky and lengthy to treat. Don't give up hope. First I'd recommend when you try a new medication that you stay on it at least 6 weeks. Medications work differently for different people and it may just take you longer to recieve the benefits. Also, some medications may not work for you at all. Prozac is the only SSRI that ever worked for me. Unfortunatly it was the last one I tried.
Whatever you do, do it with the close supervision of your doctor. And if you're not doing so already, see a good counslor. Medication is only part of the solution. Medication treats symptoms, counseling helps treat the cause.
Best wishes to you!

Hi
This is just a thought--If your doc put you on one AD after another, you may have a build up of side effects from some of the meds still in your system. If you were on any a month, and didn't taper off of them, but just started another one, that could be it. Your doc should have known that and I hope he did.
Depression can be a mean illness to treat sometimes, but it's also very hard on the one going through it. I feel so sorry you are having all of these symptoms now.
I hope you get better shortly and things will look better to you.
Best Wishes,
Whisper :)

harley, sorry that you're having so much trouble. Antidepressants aren't for a lot of people, so don't necessarily believe that you should just keep trying them, especially since it sounds like you're in a worse place now. It's not uncommon, believe me. Have you done everything you can to find out what might be causing your depression? Learning if you have physical problems, allergies, an addiction to caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, etc., and dealing with those things, along with exercise and eating right, can be hard work, but could make you feel better. Have you read any books on depression and treated it without drugs?
