I would REALLY appreciate feedback from anyone who has used Provigil.
My doctor and I are considering trying it for excessive daytime sleepiness that may or may not be a side effect of taking an SSRI.
Please answer any or all of my questions from your experience:
--Did Provigil help you with tiredness?
--What condition did you take it for? sleep disorders?
--Does it have to be taken every day or could I just take it mornings following not getting a good night's sleep (I require more than the average 8)?
--Did it make you at all anxious/jittery?
--Side effects?
--Could you still fall asleep at night?
--Do/did you find it habit forming? I don't want to feel totally reliant on it to stay awake.
ANY other suggestions for daytime tiredness greatly appreciated THANKS!

Not really, tho to be fair, I was coming off of 50mg ritalin a day.
--What condition did you take it for?
narcolepsy

I don't believe there is any benefit to taking it daily.
--Did it make you at all anxious/jittery?
no, but again note the ritalin thing.
--Side effects?
my pee smelt like aloe. other than that, no.
--Could you still fall asleep at night?
yes. note my condition tho.
--Do/did you find it habit forming?
not at all. IIRC the only reason for its cIV scheduling is its abuse potential, being stimulant-like.

some things to note:
VS. cII amphetamine derivatives-
Cons:
- you better have insurance. #30 200mg fetches ~$200 IIRC.
- It requires prior authorization by a lot of insurance companies.
- it is tier 3 copay ("non-preferred") by most insurance companies.
- it has only been on the market for ~7 years. amphetamines have been around a LONG time and are generally thought to be safe.
- it can have more drug-drug interactions, due to its affects on the liver, which can also be a concern.
Pros:
- non-amphetamine (FWIW!). AFAIK its non-addictive, tho I've never seen anyone addicted to ritalin/concerta/adderall/focalin/dexedrine
- mild, compared to other stimulant options.
- cIV, so refills are allowed for 6 months, whereas cII drugs require an RX to be written each month. in most states it can be authorized by your dr verbally.
Good luck! and don't rule out diet/med change, exercise, etc.
