Hi all,
My allergies are worse this year than they have ever been. I had a test done two weeks ago and my doc found I was allergic to over twenty separate things that I face every single day. I'm going to be starting allergy shots soon, but have been so sick with my allergies.
The most concerning thing is the headaches I've been having. I know they are from my allergies because they are much worse when I'm around the things I'm allergic to. Have any of you experienced this? and how do you treat it? (besides popping pain killers).
Thanks,
-Vers

BTW:
A Primary Symptom for Some
Only a small percentage who suffer from allergies or chemical sensitivities experience headaches as their primary symptom. But there are those, like myself, who do.
Allergic headaches are usually attributed to certain foods, but are also triggered by airborne substances such as pollens, mold spores, or chemical fragrances.
The sinuses and nasal passages become irritated by both food allergens and inhalant allergens. Although all headaches triggered by these substances may not be considered true allergic headaches, they are, however, headaches that happen to be triggered by these substances.
Sinuses
Sinus headaches are the result of when the ducts connecting the sinuses become swollen. Pressure is then caused in the membrane lining of the nasal passages. These types of headaches can be painful over, behind and under the eyes, extending into the cheeks and upper jaw bone.

Some allergens will cause headaches. When I experience headaches I usually take an antihistimine like Bendaryl or my prescription. I take Allergra most of the time. Some times depending on the severity of the reaction nothing works.
Has your doctor prescribed any medication to help you through your crisis???
I know it is hard when you have many allergies to stay away from them. And believe me I know!!!!
I have already gotten some of those small mouth and nose covers to help keep the allergens from getting into my nasal passage or enter through my mouth. They do help...

Decongestants and using Flonase really help my sinus headaches. Advil is a better choice for sinus headaches than tylenol because the advil helps reduce the sinus swelling.

Hi all,
I was really hoping there were some options besides meds. I can't really take Advil or Tylenol anymore because I have a history of pain killer addiction, so I try to just stay away so I don't become too tolerant. Benadryl does absolutely nothing for my allergies....and allegra gives me migraines. I also can't use nasal sprays because I have severe nosebleeds (up to five times a day, almost had to go to the ER once because it was such heavy bleeding.)
I definitely notice the headaches to be from my allergies though...my symptoms start as very, very itchy skin...along with my skin becoming hot and red (like a sunburn). Then my eyes water..I get a wheezy cough, start sneezing, and my nose runs. Then I start to get my more severe symptoms (one being the headaches). I become lightheaded and start yawning, then I get my headaches become really bad, my vision gets blurred....and it turns into a migraine. It is really frustrating and I'm hoping for something besides meds to help...or a different type of med..just for temporary use to get through the spring and summer.
Thanks for all of the responses!!!

If that is the case, I would look into allergy shots. If you can stop the allergies at their source so to speak, you can hopefully stop the headaches.
