I'm 46 and peri-M with all the symptoms....I have hot flashes, sleepless nights, mood swings, weight gain, you name it! I still have a monthly period, but it is now around every 23 days each month and last only 2 days.

NOW! I have really tender breast, painful!

This is a new symptom for me. Does anyone know whats going on with that? I use to have sore/tender breast when I was much-much younger, a few days before my period, But this has been for over a week now and much more painful (plus, my period isnt due until the 10th)

Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My "painful boobies" seemed to go away for a long time, only to resurface again this past month. And oh, were they sore! I got my period (after skipping a month), and it was a very heavy period. Now my breasts are fine again. I think it all depends on the amounts of whatever hormones are floating around in there. I'm not sure what you can take to help alleviate the tenderness, but I do recall many years ago, when I complained about it to my gyn, she suggested taking Vitamin E. I'm not sure if that's still her recommendation, but maybe it's worth a try.

Could you be pregnant? That is what comes to mind since you say you are still having periods. Until your period stops, you can still get pregnant at 46.

Nope not pregnant, we can totally rule out that reason, but yes, I have heard that can cause very painful/sore breast too.

I was wondering, being full blown PM, if it has something to do with "the amounts of whatever hormones are floating around in there?" as lorbis suggested.

hummmmm, just strikes me as odd, since its been years since I have had painful breast and now all of a sudden, woooooo, are they painful and sore, I cant stand for the bed cover or my shirt to be against them.

Thanks for all your help!

I am just the opposite. Always for 1 week before my period my breasts would swell and become very sore. In the last 7-8 months, I have no breast tenderness at all. My periods got terrible right when the breast problems went away. I don't know what I am, estrogen dominant or not enough. I am now on the pill so I don't think I test will really help any. Try the vitamin E. Not too high of doses, that did help me when they got really sore. Ann

This is my latest symptom too! Mine starts a few days after my period ends and goes until the next period. Years ago I'd get like this a few days before my period. But now its so much longer. I was wondering if eliminating caffeine would help??? Does anyone know?

My last period was 11 days - all light or slow drip days. How does one tell when the end is near?

Oh no, another new symptom, painful boobs! I too, have noticed the soreness and pain started just after my period and have been hurting for over a week now. I am going to try the vit. E and cut back on diet coke.

I spoke with a friend yesterday who is post-M and she said they same thing happened to her too. After her period (like me, a light period for only 2 days) her boobies would be so sore and would last for 2 weeks or more, just before her next period! It wasnt long (less than a year) after that, her period stopped all together and so did the tender boobies.

She was age 48 at the time. I am 47 and will be soooo very glad when all this is over. I'm having lot problems with anxiety, weight gain, cry at a drop of a hat, head aches, brain fog, some hot flashes (upper body/face), mood swings the list goes on and on.......Thanks for good folks like you, it reminds me that I am not alone! Thank you so much.

Hi Ladies,

Ditto on the boobie pain. I'm almost 48, and have noticed this over the past 6 months or so. My cycles are every 21 days (this is new also, used to be 28-30), and the duration is about 4 days - two normal and two very light. I start getting my pain just after it ends, and it get's progressivly worse, until about the day before I start again.

I also have a boat load of other peri symptoms, so I also hope the end is near.

I am going through the same thing exactly. My boobs feels so tender but the left gets more painful and swollen than the right whereas in the past it was the other way round. I find I am getting it for most of the month now - my left breast is swollen and the underarm sometimes feels tender like the muscle has been pulled. I am thinking of going to the docs about it as I am a bit worried. I have only been having this problem the last two months along with all the other peri symptoms.

does anyone else have more of a problem with one breast than the other.

vitamin e def helps - I take 400 iu and it takes alot of the pain away

Hi LINSCYCLIST,

yes! I have more pain in my right breast than my left. They are both painfully sore and tender, none better since the day I first posted my note on this message board....as a matter of fact, they feel even worse than they did a week ago!

My right side does hurt more, even when I move my arm, also some pain generates to my underarm and back.

They both are so tender I HAVE to wear a bra at all times, if I take my bra off at night I cant stand it! if the clothing touches, even slightly! it hurts.

I have NEVER had soreness this bad, not even when I was a teenager. But, I do feel much better knowing that I am not alone and have read that this is common for peri-m.

Thanks for listening!

Hi! I am 37. My mother and maternal grandmother were menopausal at 38. I am feeling very perimenopausal. I just had a big hot flash 10 minutes ago. My boobies are very painful. I was wondering if anyone is having breast pain that is almost like muscle spasms? I think that is the best way to describe the feeling. Just strange sensations.
