Is it typical for dry eye sufferrers to be worse in the morning?
My eyes tend to be worse upon waking, despite using ointments & masks etc.
Even taping my eyes to ensure closure makes no difference.

HI there,
you know what? I have the same problem, my eyes are terribly dry when I wake up in the morning, I put loads of eye gel, but that doesn't really help much. I try to keep my eyes closed with pads and a bandage fixed around my eyes, but it's quiet uncomfortable, so I tend to remove it at nights, but if I do keep my eyes the whole night coverd, I do feel there is a very slight difference. Well, I try everything possible, to keep my eyes in a comfortable state, but that's really difficult. Wind, travelling in the subway, or swimming is just ruining my eyes, well, that's how I feel at times.
I am on Restasis since a couple of weeks, and my all four tear ducts are closed, I somehow go on having this terrible eye disease. I hope one day, there will be something on the market that really HELPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you tried Restasis? Is your eyes severly dry? what causes it?
LEt me know.
Take care

Yes, it is a common symptom - tear production decreases at night so it makes sense your eyes will feel a bit more gritty in the morning.

Shahara,
I have low tear production based on some tests. Although this seems to depend on which doctor I go to, one told me once that I was producing perfectly adequate amount of tears. But he measured it without using anesthetic drops. I haven't tried Restasis, I don't think I can get it here in the UK. How long were you on it before you noticed any difference? Another thing I havent tried is having all 4 tear ducts closed, I've tried having the lower 2 plugged temporarily but didn't notice much improvement.

Hi there np,
well, I'm not quiet sure if this restasis really has made a big difference, it also could be the summer. cos, whenever it's really cold my eyes get totally dried out, but now that we have spring, I feel that it does depend on the weather too. So I am not quiet sure now if the Restasis could be the one that helps or not????
but I will keep on using it , cos I am in the 5 th week only, I'll probably have to use it for months until it gets better. Well, that I'll have to see.
Yes you are right, Restasis isn'T available in the u.k, it isn't available here in Germany either, so I ordered it through a international pharmacy.
What kind of symptoms do you have?
Take care
