View Full Version : A floater? No idea...

It all started about 2 weeks ago. I noticed a small black spot in my right eye. It looked slightly like a bullet hole...a dark spot in the middle with slight lines/tears coming off from all sides. I went to the net and read up on floaters. Thinking this was what was wrong and everyone saying..."dont worry everyone gets them, the mean nothing, they might go away with time" I decided to do what I do best, ignore it.

So a few days went by and it got slightly worse. Now there were three small black spots. None as big as the first but there were noticeably more. I had to get some new glasses so I figured a trip to the Optomirist wouldn't hurt. I told her of my new floaters, she dialated my eyes, took a look around and said all was well.

Since then more have appeared. The first orignal one has now has gown and more have sprung up. I'd say on a sunny day looking at a blue sky I can see probably 12 dots. The big one now has spider web type lines coming from both the left and right sides. After reading more on floaters and starring at my dots hour after hour I'm not sure if they are indeed floaters.

When I move my eyes the dots follow...they are almost always in the same position in my vision. If I look up then back they will be a little lower and with a few seconds and a little natural eye movement the go right back where they started. The exact oppsitie if I look down, they go up then, ..right back where they started.

I can see them in most any lighting, people with floaters have said to me "well you'll get used to em...they dont really bother you inside anyway." Well mine do. I can be in a pitch black room watching tv and I can see my spots. If my eyes are closed in a well lit area I can see them on my eyelids. The only time I can't see them is if I can't see anything.

I have an appointment with an Ophthalmologist next week but until then does anyone have any ideas on what this might be? Or anything I could do about them? Thanks.

I just read the post below "black spot"...sounds very similar to me and I'm assuming I'd get a lot of the same answers. So I guess I'll wait to see what the Doc has to say.
