View Full Version : Persistent Discomfort From Glasses?

I got glasses for the first time a couple months ago and they are still somewhat uncomfortable. Is it normal to have discomfort after this length of time? It's mostly on the bridge of the nose and around the eyes that it's uncomfortable.

I've been back to my optometrist's office one time to get an adjustment, but the discomfort is still there. And, it's difficult to tell them what to do especially as it doesn't start to feel uncomfortable until after I've had them on for a little while. I've been told that my eyes are very deep set and that the bridge of my nose is I believe higher than normal so that might be related.

*****Could it be the particular pair of glasses? Should I go back to the optometrist to tell them to adjust it although I won't know what to tell them to do? I assume it's not normal to feel discomfort after this long.******

A *huge* complicating factor is that for the last several months, I've had enormous stress in my life so I've had a tension headache that is mostly always there for the last couple months. I'm sure it's probably related. I'm not sure if the discomfort from the glasses is aggravating the tension headache or the other way around.

Thanks!

Glasses should not hurt if they are adjusted properly. I have a wide, high bridge and have to buy glasses with a wide nose area. There is a number on the frames that tells you the width of the bridge. Men's glasses tend to be wider than women's and adjustable nose pads are better than a rigid frame.
Keep taking your glasses back until they get them right.

One other thing--glasses touch your head only at the nose bridge and top of ears. How can they cause discomfort around the eyes? That part sounds like it might be the headache and not the glasses.

Sorry you are having problems with your glasses. I agree, the only places glasses are suppose to touch the head/face is on top of the ears and on the nose.

If the bridge is not the right size it can cause pressure on the nose between the eyes and YES it will cause misery around the eyes too, been there, had that problem.

Sounds like the person fitting your glasses missed the boat. Definitely go back and tell them something is not right and ask specificially to be measured again for proper size bridge. Also be sure and have them check the nose pieces and if they are adjustable, adjust to proper slant on the nose so an edge is not pressing on the nose.

No one has a perfect bone structure, adjustments for each individual is necessary for proper fit.
