I noticed from reading all the post and replys that most of your children with Autisum or on the spectrum are all@ the same age give or take just 2 years, I personally find it very interesting that there are age clumps of ASD. Just to see if I'm right and for other curiouse minds please tell me the age of your child with ASD.
My son was born in 2001

My son is 2 1/2. I think it may just be a coincidence. I taught elementary school for 14 years, and we never saw a single case of ASD or anything that looked like it in the entire school population for about the first 10 years. Then, we started to see at least 1 new case a year coming into Kinder. I think the incidence of it is definitely on the rise, and I don't think it's just because it's being diagnosed more.

Asperger's was not know as a separate diagnostic category in the United States until 1994. I think there has definitely been an increase in Autism/AS diagnoses since then. They report ASDs occur in 1 out of 166 people. That sounds like an awful lot of people to me. Could it be overdiagnosed. Under today's criteria, could some very intelligent but socially awkward, shy, people of the past (Roger Bannister, for example) qualify for an ASD diagnosis if evaluated?

Thank you for participating and your input- I know there are a lot of people out there trying this and that to figure out what is going on. If there is not one already I would like to start a survey of what mothers thought what may have caused there child to be Autistic- enviromental factors,-like- I had went to the dentist when I was pregnant, and genetic like- My grandfather was always concidered not a people person, and didn't talk until age 4. is there anything out there like this?
If not how would we start one? It might not be totally scientifical but just might lead into new areas of research.

I agree with the others. Asperger's and other autistic spectrum disorders are only beginning to be understood, recognized, and diagnosed. I'm a prime example of an Aspie, but I was just diagnosed early this year. Personally, I think it's great that you parents get to know so early on- that way you don't have to struggle without knowing what's wrong... Oh, by the way, I was born in 1987, and I don't know what made me have Asperger's or OCD. I guess it was genetic or prenatal environment, even though I don't have any relatives with Asperger's and my mom took very good care of herself while she was pregnant. Who knows? I'd like to... ;)
