At my doctor's visit today I was very surprised when I weighed in at 179 pounds. For the last four or five years I've been right at about 150. As soon as I got home today I weighed myself on my own scale to make sure the reading was accurate, and it showed me at 180. The last time I weighed myself was about three months ago and I was still at 150, so this is a near 30 pound weight increase for me in only three months or less.
The reason this is so surprising to me is because I show no signs of weight gain whatsoever. I haven't grown any, I haven't been doing any exercise or work that would build muscle, and I haven't put on any fat whatsoever as far as I can tell. In addition, I'm somewhat small boned, I don't have any noticeable fat deposits, and if you were to look at me you might even perceive me as being underweight or too skinny. So I'm sure you can see how this is very puzzling to me that I've somehow gained 30 pounds.
Is there anything besides an increase in muscle or fat that can cause such a dramatic increase in weight?

I don't think so, that is rather weird. How old are you? Are you on any medication? There was no change in your diet or exercise level?

Is it possible that your weigh-ins were not accurate 3 months ago?

Hi, thanks for the responses.
I'm 23 and not on any medication now, nor was I previously. I haven't had any major diet changes in the past year, though I have recently started drinking a little tea (unsweetened) daily when I used to only drink water. The only exercise I do is walking and an occasional bike ride - no changes there either.
I might should mention that I've always had the tendency to eat large amounts of food and drink a lot of water. Sometimes people are surprised at how much I eat at one sitting considering how thin I am. Four years ago I ate mostly junk, and while I still eat large helpings, I have at least been eating much healthier foods the last four years. Luckily I've always had a fast metabolism and my body doesn't store fat very well. I might interpret this recent weight gain as the first signs of my metabolism slowing down with age if it weren't for the fact that I can't find any fat showing up on my body. In fact, when I pinch the skin around my stomach, it seems tighter than it did a few months ago.

I'd be reluctant to say it's impossible, but I would say it's highly improbable. I've been using for years now the same scale that I used today to further verify the doc's reading which nearly matched. I've also always weighed in at around 150 at doctor checkups for the past four or more years now.

You may have water retention, this can make a person gain alot of weight.
HAs your doctor ruled that out?

If you must choose between them, you must choose the scale over your eyeball and a 3 month old memory.
Those scary weight gains after three months are the reason I would never go a morning without stepping on the scale. It happened to me ONCE and I swore never again.
Water weight might account for as many as 5 or 6 of those pounds if you had a particularly salty day the day before you went to the doctor.
Are you going to try to get them off? How tall are you?
Best thing you can do EASILY is to make sure that the next doctor's visit doesn't surprise you with 30 more.
P.S. I love your name! :D

I would check with a doctor to make sure there are nothing internally wrong your body.
