Its been nearly 2 weeks and i still have this horrible heart burn and indegestion! burping and wind. My chest feels like ive been through a round with mike tisan and its brused all the time, have trouble sleeping, and hurts when i breathe deeply. Im 21 i was on a few lots of antibiotics just before this happened, i think this may have cuased it. Im going out of my mind with worry. i have tried loads of things and nothing has helped, ive tried- gavisgone, zantac, antacids, ompeprazole. AND NOTHING WORKS. The question I have is: have the antibiotics done some permanent damage??? If heart burn doesnt go away does that mean that the LEA has weakened? My dad says im too young for this too happen, but im not so sure. I have also tired apple cider vinigar and doesnt help, i dont even get temporary relief from gavisgone or antacids, like you should get.
Advise needed thanks sara

hi,
the antacids don't really give much relief at all. Did you see a Dr. for a prescription yet? I have tried 3 different types of meds from the dr. but nothing has helped yet. I don't think that the damage is permanent but it can take quite a bit of time to heal. Change your diet and see if that helps with the heartburn. that seems to be the only thing that helps me. If you check these boards you will find what are the right foods to eat. It is very hard to go throught this. you are much to young to have to suffer like this. I hope it doesn't last very long. I am going to be trying a homeopathic remedy, I am waiting for it to come in the mail. I will keep u posted on my progress. the ACV didn't work for me either.
good luck

I've read about Braeburn apples for heartburn and I've tried it. Apples seem to help me. It can be any type of apple. Try one. It could be good for you. Also I just purchased DGL - Deglycirrized Licorice Root chewables from the healthfood store. I was told this eliminates problems too. Can't say it works yet as I only took one before lunch today. And, one more thing - if the ACV did not work for you I also read pickle juice could alleviate the pain. Didn't try that one yet either. I am trying to stay away from medications as the side effects have not been great for me personally. Good luck. ;)

Sara,
Double your Nexium to 2 pills per day before you give up. Those of us with LPR all have to take 2 pills a day, usually GERD responds to 1 pill a day, but yours might be exceptionally bad.

Also,
I just realized you are taking Prilosec, not Nexium. Go for the newer stuff and I'd recommend trying them in this order: Nexium, Aciphex, Prevacid, Protonix. Nexium is the latest on the market.
One other thing - your Dad is wrong. I'd say that most of us here are in our 20s and 30s and are considered relatively "young". I've had this crummy LPR since 28.

What's LPR, ACV, and LEA stand for?
I'm a 24 year old male. For the past eight months since moving back home from college I have been experiencing some horrible bouts with Acid Reflux. I tried Zantac on my own accord after about a month of brutal heartburn and I really liked it. Then in about November my doctor told me I need to get the telescope down my throat but I still haven't done it yet - at that appointment though he prescribed me the 150mg zantac(in canada you need a prescription for the higher dose) and told me to take it twice a day. Well I realize something's up with Zantac - it works in a very odd way, like it feels like your body forgets how to break down food sometimes since it gets dependent on it.
Last night after going out for a few drinks I had the worst case of acid reflux in the eight months that I have been dealing with this. I couldn't sleep all night and was very sick. It's just clearing up a little now and it's about 18 hours later. I realize now that I definitely need the telescope procedure but I'm also willing to try Nexxium too.
My mom also says I'm too young for this, and sometimes I agree with her - the only other person I know who has a similar condition is my 62 year old uncle.

From time to time I check the boards for people suffering with Heartburn.
Please try Braggs Vinegar that you can buy at GNC. I am not promoting this brand but I had really BAD heartburn and I tried all the meds. and finally I tried this vinegar and you drink it during the day in water. I usually put a teaspoon in an 8oz. glass of water and take that. also take it just before going to bed at night. Just please try it and it is natural and cheaper than all these meds. Good luck.
Just noticed you are from England. Try the health stores for the natural vinegar, regular apple cider vinegar is not all natural. The kind of vinegar you need has to have the "mother" in it, a kind of natural mold, I think.

Is it any of these items specifically?
It's odd that a vinegar is a cure - when I think of vinegar I think of an acidic substance that irritates the stomach. I also heard of a special milk available in health stores that helps too.

Heartburn is due to too much acid or not enough acid in the stomach? I have lightheaded as well. Whole body is falling apart! Nightmare!

Heartburn is due to too much acid or not enough acid in the stomach?
No I think it has to do with individual's bodies and what's going on inside of them - some people can't break down foods properly for various reasons - either because of their diets or a genetic condition inside the body. I'm sure someone can give a better explanation than I can... BUT the point I meant about the acid is I typically find myself that acidic foods lead to heartburn - ie. grapes and pickles are two interesting ones(they're acid bombs!)

When me or my husband have heart burn we will take about a table spoon of vinegar and it works. Seems weired though but it does.
