okay, so the last time I posted here it was because I was worried of an infection from my leg surgery since I had all the symptoms (except raised fever), and alot of pus leakage. When you suggested I call and see what i should do I got an emergancy appt. with my specialist. Thanks for that.
HERE IS THE PROBLEM: My scar is healing up and is almost fully healed except where the largest part of the incision was of surgery and where the infection broke out the most. Now, the leaking had basically fully stopped and I thought the infection was gone since I had been cleaning it 2 times a day and had it fully covered all day long, and took 3 pills a day for 10 days to fight the infection... Now that it looks to be healing the leaking has started again like when I first got the infection. Enough to soak through the guaze by the end of the day and if its touched (like an inch away) the pus starts coming right out. Not horribly but enough for concern. And the scab of the lower part where it is almost fully healed ( it looks like in 2 days it will be completely closed) the scab had a green tint to it in the middle. Like a lime green on the whole scab. And where the still open part is the guaze is a little green tinted. My friend came over (shes been an nurse for a longgg time) and she said they should put a drain in it especially since its visible the infection is still in it. that was a few days ago and its still happening. I've had this infection since the beginning of may right after the surgery which was on the last friday of april.
PLEASE RESPOND QUICK BEFORE THE OFFICE CLOSES BECAUSE I NEED TO KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO!!!!!
and has anyone here ever had a drain? one of my friends (melissa) has one but i dont feel right talking to her about it since she doesnt like it and she is on drs. permission for staying home and i cant walk that well so i cant really visit her., and again its weird being like again so that drain in your stomach
sorry its long but PLEASE HELP!!!

If it is still infected, you need to see your doctor again asap. I don't know much about drains, but I think they are fairly painless other than perhaps insertion and removal. But you really need to get this taken care of before it endangers your leg.

I would just explain to them that you are concerned about the way the scar is healing and then describe it like you did to us. You have a right to be concerned about your body. Don't be afraid to ask.

Denise definitely call your doctor immediately. Infections need to be taken seriously.

if you have not actually 'done" anything yet, like haven't actually spoken to your doc?please go to an ER soon and have them culture the infection to find out just what kind of infection you actually have.any infection that has not cleared up after a round of anti Bs really does need much more aggressive treatment.you could have a very resistant stran of some sort or the ant i B that they gave you was not the right type for the infection you have.
i just recently went thru what you are with my knee surgery.since I have a real big GI probelm with any sort of anti Bs i spent ALOT of time on the phone with my orthos asst, just rattling thru the types of anti bs that I need.I know some of the ones I had mentioned she stated were not the right type for this type of possible infection.so I know that any infection really does require a very specific type of anti B just to even touch the infection and to clear it.
this really has gone on way too long already and could be much deeper by now and may actually require some sort of an IV anti B.it all depends on what the infection actually is.
i really DO feel that your best bet at really clearing this would be to just go to that ER and have them do that culture.it may take a day or two for them to actually find out as the infection has to actually grow in the dish, but they may really already be able to actually pin point it down enough to get you started on the right type of anti B.I know they used cipro for mine and it cleared okay with it.unfortunetly I had to have another surgery for other post op complications, after ALL that.
but I seriously would go to the ER for this.time could be tissue if this really IS some very aggressive form of bacteria.necrosis could start and set in then things would really be much more damaging than it could be now.and much much harder to treat and actually clear from your body.if this should actually hit the bloodstream it could also be a much more serious condition which would definitely land you back into the hospital.get movin.K?I do wish you luck with this and hope they can find the right anti B soon and get you back on your feet.please let us know how things are going.FB

feelbad- the way you said this, it seems like you think I havent seen my dr. yet. I saw my specialist and he gave me my anti-b's and did a culture (rather painful if I say so myself because he was really aggressive) and they never mentioned it being the wrong type of anti-b's but he said he wasnt giving anymore because too much can do the opposite and spread it or your immune system cant function without it after that.
Today the wound is almost completely healed at the largest part, which would be a good thing if when touched around it pus didn't come out a little and it was still really really red for about an inch out all directions. also I have no feeling for about 3 inches below the wound. I thought it would have come back by now but my friend that suggested the drain said that it should come back but it doesnt sometimes but was confident mine prolly would...
anyways.. and my dad came over today (he insists on peroxide but I wont use anything unless the doctor says its okay (yeah its stupid prolly since peroxide would get the infection out most likely very quick but i want to be safe about this) and on the gauze it comes out as blood so he goes "blood is good" but when the pus comes out (like if im cleaning it or something) it is like red when I wipe it so all the red actually is pus with blood not just blood like I had thought....i dont think ER is something I have to do since its not that bad and last appt. I was like "gross" when he was cleaning it and he goes "thats nothing compaired to what you see around here" so its not too horrible but an infection is an infection. And I called but they had closed and my dr. doesnt go on call plus its not a big enough deal to bother him on call.
so what do you guys think now?
help still wanted because idk what to do about this. Like is it a big enough deal or should I just wait til the appt on thursday? i dont think scars heal with the red around it (right?) because then it wouldnt be anyworry.
Thanks again!
Always,
Denise

Its a infection and it will get worse each day. yes you do need to go to the Er ASAP.Do Not use peroxide on this type of infection.Where you on antibiotics? If so are they gone?

garden- yes I went on the anti-b's for 10 days and took one 3 times a day. i did the culture, i've seen my dr. 2 times about the infection and just double checking on it making sure its going okay. I can't get ahold of the dr. until tuesday because hes like semi retired but isnt done yet, and so he doesnt go on call and only works tuesdays and thursdays and i never met the other dr. about this so i dont think he would be of any help.
Today is almost completely healed, still pus is coming out when touched around it, and the upper most part looks like a stitch is breaking through because there is a hard little white thing coming up through. and @ the first appt. after i noticed the infection he just opened up the wound and pulled a big long white thing up and cut it and it looks like it did when that happened. my body rejected the stitches which is why it got infected (dr. told me that)
okay so no peroxide. someone told me to stay out of chlorine (not that I've been in it anyways even though its hot and im dying to go in the pool) but my dad says it would be good for it, but he also said peroxide so is going in the pool okay, or what?
thanks again,
Denise

I think it might be not a good idea to go in the pool.Keep it clean and hot compresses witha clean cloth soaked in epsom salts will help draw out the infection.

Well its less than a pinky tip open now and it looks like SOME of the redness has cleared up a little, but i was in different light so im not sure if thats a fact or not, still it could have gone deeper rather than going east and west right? the leakage has increased a little bit with a light pink (so blood with more pus instead like before it was more blood than pus)
And that white thing that was a stitch I thought- well i sterilzed tweezers (brand new but steriziled in boiling water any way) and I got the stitch and pulled up and it came right out, now another one looks like its trying to come up but not fully up yet, im going to wait until the appt. even if that comes up though so he can see that its still happening.
its still really sore to touch and all the other symptoms are still there except fever (which I never had) and the redness appears to have gone down a little bit. (not positive on that) I'm getting a rash around my wound where the tape is and then right beside it where there isnt any tape so idk what to do about that?
I ended up getting the sterile tweezers and pulling the scab off since it had tried to completely heal and the scab was very well in tact. The dr. said your skin has to come together, and it cant be joined by the scab so the scab is supposed to be like 'ripped off' by the new method of guaze (dry on wet) and the scab is becoming stubborn trying to heal but i dont see why scabs are bad, isnt that a sign of your body trying to heal? growing up you got into trouble for pulling your scabs off, so is what he saying that you shouldnt ever get the scabs since its bad??? sigh, i dont think he knows what hes talking about!!
my mom is driving me to the drs. because shes doing some shopping and i cant walk so she helps me because @ the drs. I get new guaze and a different liquid for cleaning and i cant carry it. She cant do it and now says i need to reschedule for like almost 2 weeks away!!!! I freaked and said that we cant do that and shes like oh its not bad you can wait its just an infection and your body is trying to heal. I was like YEAH HEALING WITH AN INFECTION INSIDE. ONCE IT CLOSES IT SPREADS SO MUCH QUICKER!! and shes like well i dont think this is a dying need you'll be fine for a few weeks. then my dad calls later and goes your mom said you're mad she wants you to reschedule your appt. I was like yeah and i re-explained it and he was like well you shouldn't have even gone back for a second time, I think he should have given you guaze and cleaning fluids and then you wouldnt have to see him anymore. I was like do you guys not understand what an infection is????
I wish I could drive myself but the dr. is REALLY hands on and so after the appt im like in tears of pain cuz he pushes on it and puts q-tips WAY inside of it then decides to twist them around etc. its just REALLY painful! and i cant carry anything so it sucks! (on crutches)
well thanks again guys, but let me know what im supposed to do about this appt. if she calls and cancels ill freak! i should have made another emergancy appt. but i have had to work all week
Thanks,
Denise
