What is it?
My son needs to get this doen to confirm diagnosis. Problem is we have to wait 10 months for it. What types of things do they look at? Is there a sample on the net?
Thanks.

Yikes! 10 months?! I hate waiting! Can you call other places to try and get in sooner somewhere else? Maybe try searching the internet for an Autism support group in your area. In my opinion, the best advice comes from other parents. There may be some suggestions that they could give you to speed things up. I'm in Wisconsin, so I don't have any info on how things work in Canada (I assume that is where you are from by your user name). For info on the ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule ) enter it into a search on the web. This forum doesn't allow us to suggest websites.

The ADOS stands for Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (if I'm remembering correctly.) My son was diagnosed using this test. It was very play based and, essentially, set up play and interaction scenerios in which a child on the spectrum will exhibit the symptoms. It's late -- that probably doesn't make much sense. The folks who developed it may have info on professionals in your area who are certified to administer the test. I'm not allowed to post contact info here, but I suspect they could be tracked down. They are at a major university in Michigan. Awesome people. Good luck. My son was diagnosed at 26 months, and likely would not have been without the ADOS.

10 months sounds like too long to wait. I would call every developmental pediatrician or neuropsychologist that you can find. Get on every ones waiting list, and offer to be on their cancellation list as well. When I was concerned about my son, I set up three different appointments (which required lots of paperwork). One place told us we had to wait 6 months, another place said 4 months, and the one we finally got a diagnosis from was a 2 month wait. After that I cancelled the other two appointments (so a slot would be opened up for another child to be diagnosed).

Good luck, and hang in there!

Hey, what province are you in? Here in Toronto, I just got a letter saying that we were waiting 8 months for a developmental assesment. Do you think it's a different test? or maybe diffeent wording.

Hi
Here in the UK it took 15 months for an ADOS to be done ! And then a further 5 weeks for results ! My son had been previously diagnosed with high functioning autsim ( without ADOS ) results of the ADOS was he only had autistic traits. The questions about history development ect ( soz forgot the name of this test ) came back as a diagnosis of high functioning autism. Doc refused this diagosis as the ADOS and his school report were " too good "
Its left me totally confused :confused
Good luck and hopefully you might get offered a sooner appointment
