hi everyone
just wondering if anyone else on here has had probs TTC on whilst on meds. first off i know a lot of you will probably think i shouldnt even be on meds if im TTC, but i suffer badly with depression and have spoke about it with my doc who suggested me staying on them and then cutting right down or stopping temporarily if and when i fall pregnant.
Tests last year showed that i wasnt ovulating and i couldnt understand why as im young and healthy.I thought the meds could be something to do with it, especially as the anti depressant i was on contained prolactin ( hormone which causes production of breast milk). i constantly had painful breasts and my periods were quite irregular. I asked my doc who insisted that anti depressants cannot interfere with conceiving, but if it has a hormone in it surely it can. Anyhow in november last year i took myself off the anti depressants as i was worried about it and wanted to give my body a break.I continued TTC throughout december with no success.then i had to put things on hold in january as my partner was working away. ive now had to go back on meds as became very low without them, but my periods were finally becoming regular. they still are at the moment but im worried once the meds get fully back into my system they will become irregular again. My cycles were basically about 35 days long and my doc said because of this it was very unlikely i was ovulating. But now they're 28 days.
Does this all sound mad or does anyone out there think that meds could interfere with ovulation? My doc seems to think it cant but im convinced this could be what is getting in the way. i know there are probably plenty of people out there who have conceived on anti depressants and various other meds, but if it can affect your cycle surely it can affect your chances of conceiving?
any advice would be greatly appreciated,
baby dust to all, Fallen

I think i would have to agree with you. but i also understand that of course just because u r on meds that u should assume u cant become pregnant. my cycles used to be about 35 days long and i knew i ovulated by my charting my temps. In this case it does seem as if they r interfering with ur cycles. Is there ne way u can maybe take a lower doseage? Maybe u should go ahead and try the ovulation kits and try this month. Maybe a second opinion with an obgyn? Good luck to u, i know how hard ttc can be, i think it would maybe help if u can lower ur dose and find a balance. good luck hun!!

I'm also on antidepressants, and am wondering if it will affect anything. Before we decided to TTC, I tried to half my dosage (just because I have been on them for about three or four years), and I just couldn't do it. I'm hoping that it won't have an effect - I work at a pharmacy and there are so many young people on meds that I can't imagine it would make a huge difference. I didn't even think of that until I read your post, so thanks. Maybe I'll have to look into it.
