Has anyone taken Prednisone and not gained weight? I would sure love to hear from you and how you did it. I have been on Prednisone 20 mg for almost 2 weeks and am really watching what I eat and my salt intake. Is it possible not to gain weight if you really watch what you consume?

I had a heart transplant 2 weeks ago, been on prednisone since. Right after the surgery I had gained about 10 lbs of water weight. Since then however, I am back down to the same weight I was on the day of transplant! Will it stay like this, I dunno.

I was on it only temporarily, but I lost weight because it made me so nausea. Don't know what might have happened longer term, though.

I was on it for about 3 weeks i was 140lbs when i started it went up to 180lbs, so i stopped taking it still haven't been able to get back to where i was.

My son is 10 years old and has autoimmune hepatitis.He has been on pred since November 05', initially at higher dose of 45 mg per day he gained 20# in a month.(For a skinny kid it seemed like tons.)Now that he is down to 3 mg e/o day, he has only lost 5 # of it all. He is not overweight even after gaining the weight so we havent had to worry about that. Altho on a support group i go to , they say low salt intake helps. It sems the smaller doses alone help to lose most of the weight and get rid of the moon face and other wonderful symptoms. Mfife31

i've never taken it that i haven't gained at least 20 pounds. short term i was able to get it off but from 1999 when i took it the first time i still carry 35 pounds that i can't get off for trying.:eek:

I was on it this past May because I had mono...I didn't gain any weight by just watching what I ate...I don't think I ate anything that was salty, and I cut down on my portion sizes. As long as you really watch what you eat you should be fine

I was on 80mg for a couple of months and managed to stay weight neutral. I definitely ate more then normal, but I tried to keep only healthier snacks on hand for when the cravings hit me: bannanas, apples, yogurt, etc. Plus I spent a lot of time in the gym(which I needed to do anyway, the prednisone destroyed the muscles in my legs).
