I would appreciate hearing from anyone that has had a barium CT scan. I have never had one and will be getting one next week and am concerned what the procedure is like. Is the barium swallowed or injected? Is it uncomfortable, how long does it take. Do you lay down like an MRI?

CT scans are much easier to have done than an MRI because it's just a big open doughnut shaped machine. The barium is swallowed and tastes very chalky. Generally you are given some to take at home prior to the CT scan and then again a short period before having the CT scan. When it exits the system it can cause very hard dry bowel movements that are white in nature. This is normal so don't be worried if it happens to you.

The CT scan itself only takes a few minutes to do.
