I had these tests on Thursday /Friday this week. The pH monitor was removed yesterday.
I now find that if I take a largish mouthful of food I feel a lump in my chest as it passes through. This also happenes even when i take a large drink though strangely, if i continue to drink quickly after the first gulp it disappears. Its almost as f my esophagus is pausing befor it moves stuff on. The feeling is in the right side of my upper chest around 4" from my sternum where I would have thought my esophagus isn't located (I'm no anatomist !!).
I'm a little paranoid about any problems with swallowing as my father died of esophageal cancer but this does seem to have become apparent since the tests yesterday.
I'm wondering if the technicien has caused some minor damage to my esophagus, perhaps bruised it, when he was inserting the manometry catheter. When i ate after the removal the discomfort wasn't apparent but came on later which i assume is because the local anaesthetic hadn't yet worn off.
My question is, has anyone else come across this when they have had the test ??

Yes, it is fairly common. The esoph. gets annoyed at having been insulted and goes into either spasm or dysmotility (lack of or uncoordinated peristalsis). Should pass in a bit. If not, give the doc a call.
In the meantime go for soft foods (pudding, shakes, soup etc). In other words stuff that can slide down on its own. Watch out for temp extremes or semi-solid foods/regular food. It can get stuck and/or choke you. Especially if it goes down the wrong pipe. It may also be a side effect of the anesthetic slowly wearing off - it tends to take longer than you think.
Good luck - hope it turns out you are ok in the long wrong and have no serious diagnosis!

My doctor has ordered me to do a manometry and impedence test too next week. How was yours ? Did it hurt and do you have to carry tubes through your nose for a day? They will put 9 different sensors in me to test different things next week. I wonder do they attach the sensor in your body or just hang on the tube?
