I had my hearing on Feb 10, 06. I have called many times they told me last week they have made a decision but it has been sent to underwriters. Does this mean a positive decision? If it were a denial would it still need to go thru this process? I'm just so nervous waiting for the answer, not to mention the financial issue we are in. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Did you use a Lawyer? If so call them and ask them, they may actually know the outcome of the hearing itself. I'd hate to get your hopes up if it were a denial but when mine was approved the same thing happened. I actually got my money deposited before I ever got the letter of approval! I had called the bank one day to check my balance and there was a large sum deposited. After asking the bank where it came from they said is was from SS so I called them. They told me yes I was approved and that was my back benefits.
Crossing my fingers for you!

Hi,
Barbie, thanks for the info, I do have a lawyer, they don't know anymore than I. I have heard that you get your back pay way before the letter.
Charlicat, Thanks for the well wishes, I hope the same for you too.

HI CHARLIE HERE....I don't know what state you'r in
but I can tel you this that alot of people done't know.
in most states if you'r applying for "ssi" the states have
thier own cotracted doctors that make the decisions,
they don't necessarily use you'r own doctors recomendation,
although it comes into play, but I have found in general that
if it taking a long time to get you'r decision it's a good sign.
because if they approve you it takes quite awhile to start
the paper work moving, and you will usualy get a phone call
from them asking you a few generic questions and that is
a real good sign.....I live in washington state and that's the
way it works here and in most western states..gud luck..charlie

Hi,
Thanks for the reply's, I was guessing that it takes more time to do all the details for a positive outcome than it would take to decline you. But you really never know I guess. I called the hearing and appeals office where I had my hearing, they said it's at the underwriter's and it will take maybe two weeks to hear anything else, well I asked will I be able to find out by phone before the letter is sent, they said no, they only have that on record after I have been mailed the outcome letter. I do hope they do this soon, financially we are slowly sinking here.
Once again Thanks!

If your claim is in the underwriters they are probably checking the figures for your lump sum payment for your back due.
Did you set up for direct deposit? If so check your bank daily. I know that sometimes the money gets to the bank before your award letter gets to you.
I know what you mean about the finances. You can only go so long till all your savings and other money resources deplete.
Hang in there!!!!

Hi Countrykid,
Thanks for the info, I didn't know that the underwritters do that, I thought they just write up the judges decision in legal format. That is very encouraging to hear. They said wait about two weeks and call back again, but they have said that many times in the past. I filed for SSD in sept. 2002, I really don't remember if I did the direct deposit then or not, I will be watching the bank account tho.
Good Luck to all of you that are waiting too.
Carol
i dont think how long you wait has anything to do the outcome i had my hearing april 11 and april 19th i had my fully favorable decision sitting in my mail box but i did have to wait 4 yrs for the hearing.
