Hi,
I was just recently diagnosed with Dysfuntional GallBladder Disease and was told my gallbladder has to come out. I also have chronic acid reflux for which I am on something called Ranitidine.
Can anyone tell me, is the Ranitidine supposed to cause severe headaches, or nausea as a side effect? And what can I expect from the surgery?
Thanks in advance,
Bombur

Hi Bomber :wave
Gallbladder surgery is usually pretty straight forward. You will probably be kept overnight just to make sure things are okay. It is done laparoscopically, so the recovery time is much shorter than the old way of doing it (large incision). You might have diarrhea after the surgery and for a while after due to the body having to adjust to the bile flowing in the intestines as opposed to staying in the gallbladder...basically, your intestines have to do the work of the gallbladder now.
I can't remember the brand name of the medication you are on, so I can't help now. If you go to http://www.rxlist.com, put in the name of the medicine (generic name is fine), and it will pull it up for you. It will list all of the adverse effects of the medication...it lists everything you would find in the PDR.
Good luck with your surgery!
