Does any of ya feel off balance. Its getting really bad.If I am walking its like I want to fall to the right.I can be standing and have to catch my self, because I'm losing my balance.I have even lost my balance sitting in a chair.I know I have been busy trying to get yard work done and remodel the house, don't know if it has anything to do with it.Any in sight would be helpful. My family wants me to call the neuro, but I see him on friday.

Frequently I am always grabbing walls to steady myself, and I can't make moves that I used to, ya know like grabbing something from behind as you are turning in a diffrerent direction. Balance is very important especially as we age, and here is a trick or a exercise that I do, stand, and lift your foot, bending your knee, without holding on to anything and see how long you can balance like that. It helps to control some balance issues for me, but not all of them, and that is the frustrating problem.

StephanieAnne,

I tried that standing on one leg with knee bent, not a pretty site, glad I'm home alone. My balance is terrible in the dark.In the last week I have managed to fall 4 times ,not thinking and putting my weight on one leg or the other.Your right it is frustrating.

My balance is pretty bad. It is worse on the days I am dizzy. I run into walls and furniture quite often. And I NEVER wear heels, too dangerous...

This is my most worrisome symptom! It won't go away, it does lessen up some days but never gets completely better. Can't drive because of it. I find myself grabbing things while sitting because I have sense of falling and I do fall from time to time when standing. That's how I hurt my shoulder and ended up in therapy. :( My neuro said there wasn't much they could do for balance problems unless it was dizziness, which mine isn't. I don't have a spinning sensation, just off balance. I've also noticed even when I'm on the computer I sit with my body turned to the right instead of straight ahead because when sitting straight ahead it makes the balance worse. Let me know if your neuro tells you anything that will help.

lilc, I don't wear heels,Its not a pretty sight if I do.

Lynne, I do drive but not very far.My loss of balance isn't from being dizzy.I checked all the side effects on my meds, not causing dizziness.I lose my balance on the average of 4-5 times a day.It can be sitting or standing.

Toni,

I am not having too much of a problem with my balance except in the shower. I don't dare lean my head back unless I am holding onto the shower rod. :dizzy: Mom on the other hand has really bad days. She has fallen so much that we are afraid to leave her alone. I don't let her drive anymore because of the problems she has. The doctors say that there is nothing that they can do for her. This makes things worse for her. When she is having the episodes with her balance she also has extreme problems with her speech and memory. I have to explain things a hundred times to her for her to understand. I hate seeing her go thru this. Wish there was a miracle cure out there for all of us.

Now I feel like I have a 300 pound person sitting on me. I also stumbled going out to the car. I know I should have known better, but hey I felt good.:jester:

Yep that's us, fall to the left, fall to the right! I did a good one today. I took the boys to the pool and fell. Everyone was upset and thought I had hurst myself. I was actually totally embarresed, but I just lay there and laughed. I said, well I gave everyone a good laugh. :jester: That was the first time I had fallen. I lost my balance. Atleast I wasn't hurt and everyone got a good laugh. To say the least I didn't get up out of my chair until we left. Not sure if I want to go back now or not. And not sure if I want to go to my friends birthday party tomorrow because I am afraid I will do the same thing. I don't know how to tell my friends about the MS, and I don't want to embarres myself again. Any suggestions??????

Two Feathers,

Sorry to here about your fall.I know its embarassing.I had fallen on the neighbor boy not once but twice following him down stairs and once standing on the front steps and there I went.I felt so bad for the kid.I was afraid I had hurt him,he said he was glad I wasn't hurt.thats before I knew I had MS.I now really watch where my feet are placed.I had fallen at away football game last year, boom there I went.I was glad I was with a friend who has MS,so it wasn't that embarassing.
As for your friends,my close ones they know,I have told them. They have been a great source of support. These are friends I have had from high school.
Be careful of falling and if it persist call your DR.

Toni,

I have an appointment with my primary next week and I will bring it up with her. I don't know what they can do for me since I am waiting to see the new neuro. I am getting frustrated. It seems the symptoms are just getting worse. I have really started having more problems with scanning speach, and now the falling. To tell you the truth I am not only frustrated but scared. I just don't know what to do. I know the emotional rollar costar is part of the symptoms, but I don't know.....

Hi guys,

Just wanted to let everyone know I made it my my friends birthday party and had a great time. Didn't fall....:) I explained everything to my best friend and he was so supportive. But a little to supportive. Now he wants to take me to my doctors appointments and do my shopping. I had to explain to him that I am fine for now and that I didn't think his wife would appreciate him doing things for me. Hopefully he understood. atleast he said he did. LOl

does anyone know what causes the off-balance in MS? Is it from a lesion in the cerebellum or the vestibular nerve or Spine?

Kymtnms

Rachel

They think mine may be caused by my vision. Left eye doesn't send signal to brain as fast as right one does. Makes everything out of balance and throws me off bad, especially driving! So far I have no lesions showing anywhere.

Rachel,

My neuro explained that there's 3 things that keep your balance, eyes, ears and feet and when one of these are gone the balance is gone,I have a lesion in the occipital regional and I have instability in my legs, they suspect lesions in lower spine, however mri's and myelograms can't be used ,to many titanium implants obscur the films, they have relied on the EMG/NCS and evoked potentials.
