Hi,
I'm 17 and when I was about 9 my school done their first eye test and discovered that I have really bad vision in my left eye, since then my eyes kept deteriorating I got told that eventually my left eye may go completely blind is that possible? My right eye has got just as bad as my left now so I have to wear glasses 24/7 or I can wear my toric contacts but I can only wear them for about 8hours.
I also have astigmatism and I see things called "floaters" but recently at night I have been seeing reasonably large black spots I'm not sure whether they are something to worry about?
I also get migraines on a regular basis, I was told to stop eating certain foods and not to be in the sun that often and to try not to concentrate too much is there anything else I can do? It's quite difficult to not concentrate as much because I am studying for my As levels and I have started suffering from severe arthritis in all of my joints.
I'm getting awfully tired with these problems that I keep getting, I have only mentioned a few medical problems that I have.

Thanks for your help.

What's your vision with your glasses or contacts on?

And what exactly is wrong with your eyes? You have astigmatism and what else? When you said your left eye was much worse than your right, I thought "amblyopia", but now your right eye is just as bad. Are you nearsighted (myopic)?

All that i have been told is that my left eye is really weak, its the wrong shape (more of an oval shape than round). The shape could have been altered if the eye test was done earlier i think they said before the age of 7.

Due to the bad eyesight on my left eye my right eye got strained and gradually that got really bad too.

I also asked my optician if they could give me my vision on there but they didn't that time. However I can tell you what it says on my contacts box? Well on my contacts box it says under the power part for my right eye -1.25*180. Then on my left contact box it says -2.25*170. I can see most things with my contacts on, they had to give me reasonably weak contacts for left eye because they couldn't get one strong enough for my left eye.

Urm about my eyesight, i can't see anything through my left eye everything is blurry. I can see something when it is really close. The same goes for my right eye.

I'm not sure whether thats of any help, sorry if it isn't.

That sounds like the script for the astigmatism which isn't too bad.
Well, I don't know what to tell you; maybe Squatchimo can suggest something.

I agree with KeelaC. From what you've told us, I'd have to say you've got some astigmatism and it isn't going to make you go blind.

Sound like you may have Keratoconus. My son was diagonosed with it 2 years ago and it sound like the same thing. Eye balls are more round than oval. He tried wearing hard contacts but couldn't do it. He is blind in one eye, but still has one good on. Hopefully it doesn't get both. You can have a cornea transplant with this disease, but my son has shyed away from that and put up with the blindnes. Check the symptoms of Keratoconus and see if you may have that.

I never heard of anyone as young as you having diabetes blindness, but what could it hurt to just get tested, and maybe also consult a retina specialist or another opthalmologist? I feel for you.

My oldest grand daughter's eyes are not the right shape, as her mom's were not until she had surgery, and the girl has to wait until she's 21. She used to always make the cheerleading team and like that, is missing out quite a bit because of her vision, but already has a job, taking reservations at a golf course. Lots of people require Lasik these days.

At my age, the 5-minute cataract surgery has me still so tired a week later, probably some anesthetic hanging on, it feels like my vision is getting worse and worse, hopefully just my imagination. I've had 4 eye surgeries and there isn't much if anything they can do for age-related macular degeneration. I don't know how fast it progresses, was told previous diabetic retinopathy surgeries speeded up my cataracts.

Don't get discouraged. My young daughter-in-law also had a misshapen eyeball, had it fixed, and doesn't even have to wear glasses. You'll probably be fine.
