Hi

I have been having burning in the throat, stomach and feel nasus everyday and it is getting worse. Everything I eat makes it worse. I am taking protonix ans 300 MG of zantac. I will be having a scope on Friday. I am afraid of the scope afraid of the results. I am just tierd of feeling like this for 3 months now and no relief.

Is this normal for acid reflex?

I am sorry, I do have symptoms everyday for almost 2 yrs now. I no longer take meds due to side effects and they didn't work for me. You might look into another med. When I was on Nexium my reflux symptoms were worse, I thought the med was not working but it was side effects from the nexium. I feel better without meds and a very bland diet. I only have 3 meds left to try, Protonix, Prevacid and Acidex (not sure on that one).

Good Luck to you,
Katt

I feel the same way. For 4 mos I've had this problem.

I can also say I've run through a gamut of symptoms, some of which have come and gone. The few constants for me since day 1, so far, are virtually incessant burping/hiccuping and at least warm throat (+burning, scratchy, sore). Another constant for me since my endoscopy - i.e., for 2 mos - is gastritis, a burning sometimes nauseous stomach (NOT the esophagus). Of course, I was told I have bile there (I'm special; I'm a rare breed), so that may be why I still have burning gastritis daily 4 mos after stopping Ibuprofen.

I am sorry about complaining but tonight my throat is getting worse. It is burning so much and again feels like a big lump. My stomach is burning to. I can not stand this. I don't know what to eat anymore. I can not drink anything but water.
Doc will not change meds until after the scope. I just do not know what to do.

It's all frustrating. I've had my symptoms for about 3 months now. At first they thought it was my gallbladder. My symptoms seem to change alot. The constant for me is the lump in the throat feeling (which isn't quite as bad since taking the Prilosec) and the awful taste that comes and goes. I get the burning in my throat (not my stomach, just my throat) and sore throat. I also get this feeling of air, almost feels like I have a balloon in my stomach and throat. The doc said that's a symptom of a hiatal hernia. I'm tired of drinking water, too. I'm constantly hungry because I can't eat the normal foods or alot at one time. It's all aggravating.

I have the throat burning as well. HOWEVER: I used to have the burning stomach and was nauseated (for 3 months straight) but that has gone away.;-) As soon as I started taking digestive enzymes and probiotics my stomach was fine again!! I've kept taking them and have been fine (stomach is fine-still have throat problems) for 8 months now. In March I got lazy and stopped taking them (they're not cheap) and within a week the stomach problems returned. But when I started taking them again, the stomach problems resolved. I've been fine ever since. The brand I take is "********* GIZyme" and "********* GIPro", but you could probably try any brand, go to the health food store and ask. Good luck!

i have had problems now for 10 years..i started out on prilosec, then prevacid and neither of them helped at all, just made things worse.
About 6 years ago they put me on protonix which was new at the time..and i noticed as each day went by it was getting a little better..
Everything was much better then it was until about a year ago.
Now im back to burning throat, even some discomfort and pain in there, it is so depressing, i dont want to go through this again day after day.
I also was diagnosed with fibromyalgia one year after the gerd diagnoses.
Last year my husband went for a routine endoscopy and he had a tumor in his throat..totally un expected! Right away he had surgery , radical surgery to remove it...it was the worse experience we ever went through..he had no symptoms really except for a little hard time swallowing once in a while for a few years...he would wake up a few times a year aspirating acid and would just take alka selzer and that would be that..but he didnt have burning and heartburn all the time like iwas having.
After 1 year of sugery and chemo and radiation he is ok now but stll will have to be watched very closely for the next 3 years..as it can come back..50 50 chance.
So when it comes to problems with your esphagus don';t mess around get things checked out!
I am scared to death now to go for a scope again, espeically after what i witnessed last year. but i really feel horrible betweeen the burning and my fibro im at my wits end..for the past 9 years i have been on narcotics for my fibromyalgia and i think that it has dulled any gerd problems i might have been happening.
If any of you have not tried protonix try it..also ask if you can use carafate with your PPI it helps alot!!!!

other things ihave done was stopped drinking milk, and started drinking lactaid milk, and yogurts alot..and i have totally stayed away from any heartburn trigger foods...its tough to do but you get use to it.

Just dont let them pull your gallbladder out unless its totally inflammed, not working properly or have stones..and if theres anything you can do about it without having it taken out then do so...if you have GeRD and have your gall bladder out i can guarantee you you will have more problems after that then you ever imagined!!!!

Take care

Nexium worked for me after trying a great many other medications. I'm Type 1 diabetic also and the symptoms you describe gave me severe trouble with my diet and every day. I avoid all spices and high seasoning and the last 4 months have been so much better. The scope is necessary but we were given the choice of being knocked out, throat numbed or just swallow it which I did - not a good idea but best for my diabetes. Your imagination will make it seem worse - Good luck.
