not much to it....
You get your throat painted/gargle with some formaldehyde (sp?) gel (at least in my town)...
ya get slipped some sleepy juice,,, a scope is placed down your esophugus (of course you don't know it)-- next thing ya know-- you are away--maybe with just a bit of a raspy throat--- piece of cake

I am supposed to have it done next Friday. They told me they would use Demerol and Versed. Hope I don't know a thing that goes on.

No big deal. I had this done on Tuesday. My throat was sprayed with a numbing medicine, then I immediately was in sleepyland. I don't remember a thing until I woke up.

I had a little different experience. I had to hold this make-shift lolipop (tongue depresser with vick's type goop on it) In my mouth and work it back to back of throat. It numbs as it goes back. They let me take my time but did as annoying questions (I think as some sort of sarcastic joke) while my mouth was full. Then lay down and have me swallow (already numb) the tube at the right point. It feels uncomfortable knowing thing is in there but I was sort of annoyed I couldn't see anything faced away from screen. As for results, I knew when they looked for most part. Found small healing ulcer and small sliding hital hernia along with Eosinophilic Gastritis. The hernia and ulcer were what made everyone call it GERD before but I got on right meds after for the EG and now all is good. The EG is rare I'm told and has to do with red blood cells doing weird stuff to lining of stomac. If you have GERD or maybe ulcer they will see it and can take snips of biopsies while tube is down. It doesn't hurt that I remember for snips. They can also see if any repair needs to be surgicaly or can be done to tighten the opening to stomac to permanently stop heartburn. Hope this helps you some

I had one today and if you dontlike having things in your mouth near the throat it makes you gag badly. I gagged so much I wet my self with the pressure of the gagging.

They didn't numb your throat?

Yes they did numb my throat but I could still feel the tube. It was a very thick tube about the diamenter of a ten cent piece. I would like to know what the chemical is in the spray they use.

Had my endoscopy today - As someone else mentioned the worse part was putting the needle in for the IV. I don't remember a thing about it. Slept through it!

Lucky Bums!!!

(This is to the ones who got IV and went to sleep)

Being awake stinks but I gag at dentist x-rays and I didn't gag at this. The tube was thick but I wasn't letting anyone get near me till I could safely touch back of throat with the tonge depresser with the medicine on it. Hope eveyone else who has to go through it gets to go to sleep for it. :)

Take care
Nina

Seems like after every test I have I feel worse. I have felt strange feelings at the bottom of my ribs and lower stomach around ovaries hurts. I had the endoscopy Friday. Now I'm wondering if somehow I got an infection from it!

I had one done in Nov. They numbed my throat & gave me the IV but I didn't fall asleep. I don't remember though gagging on the endoscope but I do remember watching them move the scope around, their comments & pulling the scope out. It wasn't uncomfortable at all. I left the hospital within a half hour after it was done.

I supposed to go for a followup to the doc on 2/18. The only thing he told me that day some gastritis and he took some biopsies. I have hurt all week in the lower stomach - don't know what is wrong. Could I get an infection from this???
