Hey peeps -
You've been helpful already, I hope you can provide some more info.
The intermittent lump-feeling on the right side of my throat has come back and yesterday was particularly painful. Felt like I was passing a gallstone, well, in the throat anyway. I felt it all the way down into my chest, particularly in the back. Not all over, in a straight line from my throat.
Then I had some hot tea, swallowed a lot, and the pain went down significantly. Still a bit there though, a day later.
Any ideas? Tonsil stones? Sinus infection? Eustachian tube blockage? Tiny aliens setting up shop in my ear?

Chances are that it is a swollen lymph node/s. Feel arouond and see if there is tenderness above the area affected.

Hey, a response! Thanks.
I don't feel tenderness right now, but did six months ago when this problem started. It's on and off. Doesn't hurt much right now, but this thing never completely goes away.
Any idea what causes it?

Well, if the tea made it feel better im assuming it has to do with swelling, but what is swelling exactly is anyones guess.
Where in your throat is this at? Is it right above your ribcage (at the beginning of your neck) or is it somewhere on the sides of the jaw where your lymph nodes are. Im sick right now with 5 lymph nodes swollen in my neck - its a Mother ****** to swallow anything that isnt completely mashed. I feel like im either choking on my tongue or on my esophagus - is that what you feel?

I have what feels like a lump on the side of the throat. Or a piece of food stuck. Soft foods make it feel better. Sometimes it goes away for days at a time.
My sinus infection cleared up with Levaquin, so did my PVCs (I have a few posts over at the heart disease forum.) But the lump comes and goes. Right now it feels less like a lump and more like a....well...a wider area.
The location moves around a bit. Sometimes it's in the back of my mouth right under where the jaw comes together. More often, it's about an inch and a half from the base of my neck. Hard to tell exactly since I feel it from inside.

Man, that is wild. Well, ive never experienced anything of that sort, but since you said that warm things (tea) makes it feel better, Im going to stick to my first guess and say that its one or a couple of lymph nodes swelling from something.
Have you been checked for a tumor possibly? I read somewhere that one woman's mom had something similar to you and foudn out it was a tumor - it was benign, but nevertheless it ruined her comfort in swallowing.
Go get an CAT scan or something to see if there is anything weird in the throat. It may be possible there is damage from acid reflux. You will never know until you have some sort of doctor looking inside your throat.
