Hey,

Went to see the acupuncturist today. I told him I have allergies and ibs and anxiety disorder and i cant remember or not if I told him I had tmj. He gave me a chinese herb called "Calm Spirit" and said to try that for 3 weeks and see if theres any change. He said if it doesnt do anything that then we can start to put me on the table and do treatments or whatever. He said there are NO side effects but it seems like after I took the 3 tablets that my head was more heavy and was throbbin w/ pressure and stuff and i felt weird. Im suppost to take them on an empty stomach. Does that mean I can eat after I take the pills or what? He said I would start to feel in it within an hour, but so far no change as far as anxiety or health..

What is discouraging is that I told my friend that I was gonna take this herb and try this treatment and she said that since she thinks I have anxiety and stress, that the acupuncture treatment and the herb will not help one bit. :(

Hello kevinnader......Sometimes these "prepackaged" and "ready to go" herbs are filled with other "contaminates" that often due much harm in the long run. Not everyone who wears a white lab coat, is of Asian descent, calls himself/herself an Herbalist/Accupuncturist knows what they are doing and are legitimate. Always use caution and be selective!!

K....I am realistic and have much experience with all of this here in NYC. Always "look into things clearly", before you leap. There are good herbalists and Accupuncturists out there. Finding them is the difficulty.

So he gave you the herbs today and didn't treat you with needles at all? You are way braver than I am. My acupuncturist has been talking to me over and over again about the benefits of herbs for anxiety, but for the life of me, I cannot bring myself to try them. I am such a chicken when it comes to stuff like this. I wish I could try it, but I just can't. So he just treats me with needles. Sometimes it helps the anxiety, and sometimes it doesn't.

How are you feeling now?

I have grown up with acupuncture in my life and I have never seen a acupuncturist offer herbs before the needles. Herbs are generally offered as a supplement to the needles, not the other way around. I have always been given the option not to take the herbs because i've been afraid of side effects or strange interactions with other drugs. if the herbs make you feel sick, stop the herbs and ask for treatments without herbs instead.

He knows that its goinna be costly for me w/ the treatments and thats why he first suggested these herbs because if they help me a great deal or whatever. He told me this.

My acupunctureist puts me right into a "trance" with the needles. I don't need or want the herbs. In fact she has never suggested herbs, but the're all different i guess. I would opt for the needles first.

I feel herbs can be dangerous with other drugs too. Good luck to you.

Hi there

I have received acupuncture for high blood pressure, anxiety and depression and it has done wonders for me. I am no longer stressed at all, feel happy A LOT and my blood pressure has come way down.

The Chinese doctor I saw was ace. I got the needles and herbs and I am due to see him again in two weeks time and I cannot wait!!! He has really helped me - totally turned my life around. I haven't felt this good in years.

I live in the UK and here we have acupuncturists registered and that is where I found my one - I wouldn't go to someone who wasn't registered.

I wish you luck.

Christine

I get Acupuncture treatments for TMJ, menopause, etc. and it really relaxes me and relieves my pain. Since I take so many RX drugs and supplements, the Acup. hasn't given me any herbs to take. Why don't you just go for the treatment and not take the herbs if they don't agree with you.

Kevin

To your first post regarding 'on an empty stomach'

I was told this by a nutritionist on a different issue but he said that it means 'at least 30 minutes before eating and at least 2 hours after eating'

The reason is that you need the herbs (specific dietary supplements in my case) to be absorbed into the bloodstream, rather than be flushed through with digested foods

Did this person take your pulses? This is not the western pulse on the radial artery but gives the practitioner a reading on all your organ systems. If he doesn't know how to do this I would be suspect as most acupuncturists and OMD's will take the pulses before treating.
