Dear Scared,
I am sorry for your mom's diagnosis. No, cancer always does not mean the worst. The outcome usually depends on the stage cancer she has. There are alot of websites to get good information from. I hope for the best for yall.

I am sorry about your mom.I am here to tell you this can be beat.My very good friend had throat cancer, stage 4 b which is pretty bad. His treatment consisted of 35 radiation treatments and 3 rounds of chemo. The treatment is very tough.Make sure she bulks up prior to tx and see if the doctor can give her something to try to save her salivary glands. A peg tube for feeding can help.It saved my friends life, he coud not swallow even water during treatment. He could not taste either. He got pretty thin. But he is now 2 years out from treatment and doing well. The loss of saliva is his biggest side effect. He can eat alot of things now but breads are very hard without saliva. The road is tough but there is light at the end of the tunnel.Be there for her and tell her to be strong! It can be beat! I'll help as much as I can ! Good luck! :)

Hi there. I am really sorry this is happening to your Mom. There are a few things I can suggest to you here. There is something known as the raw foods diet which has helped many people with serious illnesses. You can do a search on it online and also I am sure that you could find books on it too.
Next, if you don't want to do this, there is something called craniosacral therapy. I know I have said it a bunch already on some other posts, but it is helpful for a whole bunch of health problems too. There are wonderful websites about this too. Both of these have helped many people when nothing else had.
Basically, if your Mom really doesn't want to go through chemo again, she is going to have to find something else to do. And it seems like that's all that conventional medicine offers. So maybe she may have to look at alternative medicine to help her through this. Show her some of this stuff and see what she thinks. I am sure that she would appreciate you looking out for her.
I really hope that this helps and don't lose hope! Good luck with everything!

Hi Scared Teenager
Sorry to hear about your mums problems. I hope she will cope well with the treatment, whatever that entails.
Regarding losing your hair with chemo. This does not always happen. There are many types of chemo which do not cause this effect although the oncologists will never guarantee it. My husband and mum had oxaliplatin/5fu for bowel cancer and did not lose any.
Also, if your mum is looking at alternative therapies, please do make sure she tells her doctors/surgeons/etc as they can sometimes cause problems if the NHS docs are doing tests, ie give wrong data.
good luck

Hair's nothing, give her a big hug and tell her you love her with or without hair, it doesn't matter. Tell her to get a wig, they're great nowadays. I know it's hard but try to be there for her, ask if it would help if you went to the doctor with her, show her she's not alone.
Good luck
