I was just wondering if anybody knew if exercise would help get rid of all the extra anxiety that you can get. I have thought of doing yoga but i prefer to be more active.
I know its good for stress but anxiety is different (i fink).

Thank You.

It certainly doesn't hurt. I run a mile every day and swim on the weekends and I feel it is beneficial.

I know I certainly feel better when I exercise (running either on a treadmill or the road and weightlifting). One thing that I've found though, is that during times when my anxiety symptoms are active, I can't always do something aerobic. Sometimes it seems like when I just start to get my heart rate up, it can seem to trigger an anxiety attack. It seems like sometimes my heart rate is very "volatile". Does anyone else have this problem?

Soccer Dad,

Yes, there are times when I feel volatile because of the anxiety then I can't do as much so usually I just end up swimming for about 15 minutes.

Yes, yes and yes!!!! I can't imagine how I'd feel if I didn't work out like I do...Usually MODERATE level exercise helps relieve the symptoms. :D

Hey,

I've read that exercise does work. It's something I need to start doing. People tell me that all the time too. Even though I'm thin and want to gain weight due to anxiety, everyone tells me to stay active and do basic exercises to help myself. So I guess it doesn't hurt.

I work out every morning. I'm a cyclist and I lift weights. Without it, I'm useless - angry, upset at little things, etc. I asked both my therapist & my p/doc if this was excessive & they said no - not as long as it is helping and I'm not suffering adverse effects - like working out with injuries.

(Although, after my cervical fusion, I did try riding my bike with a cervical collar on. Didn't work real well, but the cars sure gave me a wide berth!)
