hi, this is my very first post on here. i have a gagging problem that wont seem to get better. i been on a variety of medications for depression(and i didnt even think i had depression) in the past and present. i've had the feeling of gagging for as long as i can remember, but have not actually gagged. i started gagging about 5 or 6 years ago and i have the sensation all the time. when i am at home i usually dont have the sensation of gagging, only sometimes. i usually have the sensation of gagging and do gag when i go out of the house to anywhere, the longer i travel to somewhere, the more painful it is. i have been to a few doctors, but havent had any luck, they have never heard of anybody with gagging problems. i have even been to the anxiety disorder clinic and they couldnt help me. prior to being on medication, the gagging wasnt so bad. but now that im on medication, it has worsened. and when i go off my meds, it is 10 times worser. one time i went off my meds and i couldnt stop gagging for the whole night in bed. when i get the gagging feeling and do gag, my whole body goes numb and i feel so weak. it's like i cant function. and my heart beats like crazy. i think its anxiety i have and i am experiencing panic attacks. i'm not sure what to do anymore. maybe i'll just have to live with it and try control it. anyways, thanks for reading this.

welcome
tell us about your meds and doses
have you been checked by a throat specialist, if not get this done
throat problems, gagging, swallowing and talking are common from anxiety, valium helps for a while by relaxing the throat muscles.

I get the gaggy feeling sometimes too, but mine is mostly caused by post nasal drip. Like hry33 said, if you haven't seen a throat and nose specialist, you should really see one.
Also, when you feel like gagging, try smiling. I know its sounds stupid but it surpresses the gag reflex. lol I learned that from CSI...but I swear it really works!

thanks for the reply hry33 and (s)aint. im on 20mg of celexa one day and 10mg of celexa the next day. it's kinda obvious that this isnt caused by something physical, like a throat problem, because of the fact the only time i usually feel like this is out of the house. it's a mental thing. thanks for the help.
