My son is 6 yrs and dx with Asperger Syndrome. While he is so very well off in this area, more like a shadowing, he does have problems and I'm starting to think it is more ADD/ADHD than AS.

The dr's say he is inpulsive, and I guess he is to some extent. He isn't the kind to run out in front of a car, but he can't sit still or keep his hands to himself. HE HAS TO TOUCH EVERYTHING and EVERYONE. He doesn't stop talking and is SO VERY outgoing, which goes against the AS dx.

He just doesn't sit still UNLESS he is watching a movie then he is mesmerized by the TV/Movie. He can not sit and eat w/o having to get up to pee or look at something or what every. He can't NOT interupt. He can't NOT talk to strangers. He can't stop touching everything in the store.

SO, my ? is this. Do I go back to the child psycologist (Childrens hospital) that dx him with the AS or is there someone better to do this.

If he requires meds, how long does it take for them to take effect, how do I know if it is the right course.

I'm worried about his school work and paying attention. He can't seem to pay attention long enough for stuff to sink in. His speech comes and goes cause I think he has so much going on in his head that he can't make since of it all and get it out right.

He is going into the 1st grade and I know they will not be as leanent about him moving around the class. Right now he is a beast cause school is out and his secdule is thrown off and he is REALLY bad.

HELP! IS any of this what ADD/ADHD is or is it really the AS? I feel the over lap each other quite a bit.
Thanks

He could have ADHD along with AS, my son was diagnosed at 4 1/2 with PDD-NOS and ADD, but i'm in the process of having him rediagnosed now, there was alot he could not do in the first testing, an now i'm hoping they can get a clearer picture and i'll know if it still fits. The regular classroom may be to much for him, too many kids and too much going on, your school should have a learning center that will be smaller class size that he can go to for some of his learning while at school, that should be put in place when you have an IEP meeting, his getting up and down and attention problems can be adressed there too, they may need to let him take small breaks during some assignments that are too long. Discuss your concerns with the school counsler. I assume you have an IEP in place already, is he in any special classes already? I took my son off meds after about 1 1/2 years because i didn't see much difference but he was more inatentive then hyperactive and i don't think he was on the right meds. I hear it is a big help with a lot of children though especially the 2 i know that are hyperactive.
Well I probably wasn't much help, my first time on a site talking about it.
Good luck :)
