I was wondering, what do all of you eat on the days you have your chemo treatments, and for a few days after? My chemo nurse always tells me to eat "bland". I am diabetic, on insulin, so I have to eat, but I'm in search of ideas......I am getting so tired of scrambled eggs and toast, and I have developed an aversion to chicken, (don't ask me why!?) I haven't had too bad of a time of it yet, I do make use of anit-nausea pills, just in case. Just looking for some new "bland" things to eat.....
Thanks,
W.

i asked my onc this same question - he said anything yo want. (assuming you're not on a special diet like me) I'm on a low res diet coming off of my ilieostomy takedown. I see many people in the chemo room eating all sorts of food. Fiberous, sweets, you name it. It really boils down to your situation and what your doc says.
i hate being on a low res diet, if i could, i'd eat my feet. i want to eat everything i see. cooking shows are torture for me.

I agree with Phil. Eat what you want to eat. If anything has in the past caused you any problems you may want to limit or cut out that one thing(ie. hot curry dishes, jalepeno peppers, sushi with wasabi sauce).
You may find that some tastes have changed. I was sucking on ice chips while chemo infusions were taking place but after a few rounds I found that the ice made me feel nauseous. I switched to orange flavoured popsicles. I liked orange flavours and grape but could not stand cherry, strawberry, lemon or lime. Chicken tasted different but not bad, beef and pork was OK but ham tasted saltier than before.
I had some bowel distress times but can't pin down any speific foods that did me in though stuffing a big meal of any type into me was enough to set new records in bowel motility  We had boiled beets one dinner time and within a short time it was obvious that dinner had run right through me.( again  )
So butter that toast and have some cheese with those eggs. BBQ a hamburger and have it with potato salad. Just take it easy and try and keep track of what does and doesn't cause problems.

Hi Windyblaze,
If you are on Folfox be careful of anything cold, especially the first few days. After that I could drink cold drinks and juice from the frig.
My doc said pretty much like the others just said, eat what you feel you can tolerate. He cautioned me about eating raw salads, veggies, fruits etc. Said to wash them thoroughly to get any bacteria off them.
So on day 5 diarrhea began and that is when I went on the eggs and toast, lean chicken, etc. and cut out all dairy products and the liquid nuturitional drink (generic Ensure). By day 10, with diarrhea gone, I went back to eating a regular diet including a salad.
In your case you will probably have to eliminate sweets and be careful with your sugar intake. Good luck to you and let us know how you're doing.

Eat what feels right. I know for me I ate a lot of boiled potatoes and steamed carrots. Also had cravings for bread and butter pickles, warm tang, and potato chips. Pretzels were a good snack for me too.
Good luck. It is a tough road...listen to your body. Please just try to keep hydrated. I know it is very difficult, especially when you are drinking warm liquids and everything tastes funny.
Take care,

Don't eat your favourite food! The brain has a strange way of associating the feeling sick with what you just ate, even though you know that's not the cause.
