View Full Version : Retinal Cysts? Something new.....

Always something. Latest angiograms show retinal cysts in both eyes. I found them alarming, they are all over the retina. Doctor didn't really explain other than to say they are caused by the diabetic retinopathy. I'm wondering whether they are treatable, if they are affecting my vision? etc. It was disheartening to see them in my "good eye" too.
Anyone have any ideas or info? I plan to ask the doctor but I don't see him for another two weeks or so. I have been looking for information, but nothing has explained it so far.
Doctor isn't very good about explaining it either. He usually just mentions it and says it's a part of diabetic retinopathy. I'm not sure whether he doesn't want me to get too down with bad news or he himself has given up on me. He did say that he doesn't know which way to go with me anymore.

Retinal Cycts are related to Retinoschisis, meaning splitting of the eye's retina into two layers. One forms of this disorder, the most common, is an acquired form that affects both men and women. It usually occurs in middle age or beyond, although it can occur earlier, and it is sometimes known as senile retinoschisis. The disorder is characterized by a slow, progressive loss of parts of the field of vision corresponding to the areas of the retina that have become split. Retinoschisis may be associated with the development of saclike blisters (cysts) in the retina.

I hope your doctor is compassionate enough to explain in detail more about your Retinal Cycts. If you keep getting "put offs" as to your treatment, I would suggest you find a doctor who is willing to communicate and provide a postive form of continued treatment.

There are doctors that can do this ! :)
