I have been a member for awhile, but have never introduced myself. Here I am , 53 yr old female. DX fibro 8 yrs ago. Like everyone else I have pain, and weird symptoms. My latest that has bothered me for almost a yr is hypoglycemia. I try to stay away from complex carbs, I eat very healthy. Fruits, veggies, lean protien, brown rice, ect, ect. But 3 hours after eating, I start with, hunger, nausea, dizzy, sweaty, shakes, and if I don't eat THEN.... I pass out. I have only gone down once (in a store) Embarrassing!!!! Have had blood work, hahahaha, and low and behold my blood sugar level is on the HIGH end of normal. My Dr. explained that it means heading toward pre diabetes.... So how in the world do I have hypoglycemia after eating???? Anyone else have this??? Would love to hear form you....Is this part of Fibro???
Love this site, and thanks for all the terrific help and encouragment. Have a pain free day!

Hi Stick,
Actually, when blood sugar is elevated, one is having a hyperglycemic response. The symptoms you have can be easily confused w/hypoG. (the words are easy to mix up, too).
Are you able to get any exercise? Keeping as active as possible (and believe me, I know, sometimes it's just not all that possible), helps to keep insulin sensitivity alive & well, helping to halt further progression towards diabetes. You probably know that any exercise should be gentle; walking, stretching, yoga, pool exercise sort of thing. And, even if you can only do a minute or two, try to do it a few times per day. Every little bit helps.
Caffeine and stress increase adrenaline in the body which increases the level of insulin. Reducing caffeine & stress, reducing sugars & simple carbs, eating very small, low-glycemic meals, but frequently, can help you beat this. Some people find that even an overabundance of fruit juice can worsen their blood sugars.
HTH.

Elmar,
Thanks for the response, any bit of help and advice is great. Yes I do excersice, 1 hr am 1 hr pm x 7x 52. I do 3 miles on treadmill, 8 lbs weights, crunches, back excresices, pushups, ect ect. Morning is the worst time for me, getting out of bed can be fun.... I feel like I have been run over, and look it too. But once I start moving, I feel much better. I work 4 days a week also, and keep moving in my job too. If it wasn't for the excersice, I think I would have given up long ago. I have become addicted ot it I think.
Anyway, my Dr. ordered more blood work, I guess I will wait and see.
Thanks again for the help,
Wendy

Hi! Just happened to read about blood sugar today and thought you might get some help from the info. Connie Guttersen RD, Ph.D, visiting nutrition instructor at The Culiinary Institute of America at Greystone in California mentioned olive oil. Eating as little as 2 tablespoons daily cuts cravings & over-eating by 22%. Olive oil contains healthy fats & polyphenols. This combo improves the body's ability to use glucose, keeping blood sugar steady & fat burning at its peak. I am going to try it for 2 weeks to fight the sugar cravings.

I am hypoglycemic also and was told by the doctor early on that If I wasn't careful it could turn into diabetes. Not quite sure how low turns into high but apparently it does.

Oh Yeyah - It's a total possibility. Man - if I only told you the man hours I've put into researching this disease. UGH! So yes, We have a pre-disposition to Diabetes or even Insulin Resistance if we don't keep it in check.
I did some poking around and it has been theorized that FM/CFS can be related with deficiencies in the adrenals and the pituitary glands. (AND Diabetes is on the check list for adrenal dysfunction) So if you get a chance, I'd suggest you check it out. Search that Wiccahpedia (I had to spell it phonetically becuase they won't let me say it) site by maybe just reading up on Pituitary and how it actually controls how you are metabolizing sugars and things... also there is actually a condition that is called Hypopituitarism that raised my brow... BUT - Still pokin around though. But yes, If you smoke, ingest caffine and lotsa bad carbs its no good. (french accent - Iz sooo American!) I really wish I could eat sushi everyday and kabob and tabouleh!!!
Sorry to get goofy... it's late!
So I try to avoid the intense sugary things by eating carrots. BUt remember that with raw veggies, you have to chew chew chew because they can be hard and rough to digest.
It has been recommended to get The Zone Diet books. They teach you all about foods and how and what to eat. My Doc swears it'll help with energy since I've been relying so much on sugar for it... We'll see!
Big Hugs -

I just wanted to say "Thank You" to everyone that has replied so far. I will keep all info close at hand and even try some of the suggestions.
Madd Katter............. Interesting reading. And very weird also. A year and a half ago my kidney function went crazy. Creatinine and B.U.N went from the lowest on the charts to over normal range. Had to have kidney test every week for 2 months, had to see a Nephrologist, and he discussed doing biopsy when creatinine hit 2.0. DX was Interstitial Nephritis. My Kidney function is down to normal again, the only thing I did was to decrease coffee intake, and of course increase h2 O
Whatever Fibro is (other than painfull and nasty) it sure messes with the entire body inside and out.
Thanks again for all of the help.
A pain free day to all of you....... :)
