Hi,

I am saddened to see ---> :( (once again) that BDD hasnt got a forum of its own. The closest thing i could find to it is this here OCD forum (BDD has obsessive compulsive elements).
I first developed BDD in my mid/late teens and found it very debilitating for many years. I'm 27 now and doing better but i still have echos of BDD and would be interested in any one elses experiences with it.

Hey Ruby

Yeah, I noticed that as well. Maybe cos BDD is related to OCD in the obsessive disorders spectrum, I dont know. But it DOES deserve a forum all of its own.

Had a touch of BDD in my late teens, although Im predominatly OCD and that was what brought on my body dysmorphism. I wouldnt go out for the longest time... I was obsessed with what I was convinced were defects in my appaerance. Of course, I was the only one who noticed them! :) I was forever checking mirrors and reflective material and the like.

I got over mine by using the same exposure techniques I learnt in OCD therapy. Was hard at first, going out in public regardless of what I perceived myself to look like. It eventually got easier and BDD is a nasty memory. My OCD soon moved onto other things anyway. I'm glad you are doing better, I'd never want the experience again.

Hi, I too suffer from BDD and through cognitive behavioral therapy I improved GREATLY. Not 100% (I can't see this ever happening) but life is WAY better than it used to be! I have to say that for all my crazy disorders (OCD, GAD, BDD, SAD and depression), the woman I saw for BDD (and she was only an intern yet!) helped me the most! What I learnt through exposure techniques from her changed my life, and capability to manage the other disorders.
