Hello friends!
I did OK yesterday. During the day it wasn't too bad but I knew it would be like that. Sort of like when I have an all day meeting.
Around dinner time, it got bad. I grabbed my kids and we went out for dinner and then to the mall (can't smoke in those places).
It got bad while I was driving and then after dinner it was awful. Those are the times when I ALWAYS smoked! I didn't know my truck could start without a lit ciggarette. :)
So last night it got really really bad and I drove to 7-11, bought a pack, came home and smoked one in my garage. It didn't taste good at all and I got lightheaded.
I got rid of the remaining pack. I confessed to my kids this morning and they said not to be so hard on myself and to remind myself that I had one instead of forty!
So ... new start today.
That "nic fit" feeling is bad all day so far. I try to keep distracted and do deep breathing. I'm also on lots of web sites that show the affects of smoking, to try and scare myself.
I will be going to the store later (can't smoke there) and then I'll take my kids to the mall again tonight (can't smoke there either).
But ... what happens around 10 or 11 O'clock tonight when I'm sitting here alone and that strong urge hits?
One more question. I have Lyme disease and I lost my sense of balance and I'm really sick. Instead of walking, is there something else I can do to run away from the urges without actually running?
Peace and health and smoke free days to all.

To be honest, I found the most effective way to quit was to cut down first. Originally in Jan, I stopped for 3 weeks, but then one day I was just fet up and smoked a pack. Then went back to my old habits and smoked even more. Then in March I decided to cut down to 1-2 a day. Then in April, 1 ever 2 days, then half way through I was just.. why bother smoking anymore, its a waste of money and going to give me lung cancer. What helped was picking up a hobby. I signed up with a mixed martial arts gym, started taking Muay thai and Jiu jitsu classes, and I saw smoking as something hindering my training and didnt want to bother with that because all my hard work and time would go to waste. Setting realistic goals is the most effective way to quit from my experience, I helped another friend quit and trying to help my other friends, got another one very close to quitting fully. I hope that helped, as cheesy as I always though it was. Look at pictures of lung cancer and other diseases, its really disgusting and just think about it, you're paying to kill your lungs (that doesnt sound like a fair deal to me). But don't get me wrong, it was quit hard, especailly being around friends who are all smokers, I felt really proud with myself after. Took me 4 months after saying I was gonna quit. Its a long journey and I hope you are successful!
