Dear Safari: I work as a social worker in a large, metropolitan trauma center and am also HIV+. Certainly, we have to be extra careful when taking care of patients who have MRSA, VRE, C-diff, etc. However, you need to make sure that you follow the rules established by your facility regarding infection control issues. Wear gloves when you are changing a patient or doing any kind of wound care. Wear a mask if the MRSA is respiratory-based. Glove, gown, and mask when appropriate. And, always always always wash you hands between patients whether you have done any personal care for them or not. It will reduce the risk of infecting your patients as well as keep yourself safe. However, I still think I can catch a bug walking through the mall as easily. chris
