Hello I have come to this board in hopes of some answers. My dh is having problems with going to the bathroom all the time. And when he has to go he has to go if ya know what I mean. Also his anus itches all the time and burns and is sore. Hes not bisexual or anything so its not like theres anything that goes up there. Could these be signs? what are some common signs? Hes never had blood in his stool either.
thanks sandra

Sandra,
If he's over age 40 (some say 50, but many insurances will now pay over 40) he should schedule an appointment with a GI. Otherwise, symptoms of CC are flattened or pencil thin stool, bleeding rectally, increased frequency of bowel movements, increased mucous, pain, bloatedness, etc.
It sounds as though your husband might have irritable bowel syndrome, in which case there are medications so that he and you don't have to lead your lives around the bathroom. People with IBS will often have a strong urgency to go right after eating anything, pain, excess gas, etc. The itching might be that since he is going so often, he is not cleaning as well-- again could e a sign of IBS. Have him use some baby wipes to clean thoroughly and avoid irritation (sometimes hemorrhoid cream is beneficial in this instance (Tronolane is good).
He should still see a GI for a colonoscopy though (not a big deal for a procedure) to rule out occult bleeding or bleeding that he can't see, but is there and could mean cancer. If it were to be something serious like cancer, it is MUCH better to catch it early than later. So do encourage him to see a GI. Maybe let the GI suggest the colonoscopy if he is squeamish about it.
Good Luck,

I certainly agree with everything CD says. I would add that the itchyness may also be caused by there being more digestive fluids in the feces and this may be irritating the skin of his bottom and the anus.
