and before anyone corrects me i have no idea how to spell:)

my eyes tested high (pressure of 25) and of course i had to spend FOREVER retesting because no doctor likes to believe that a 28 year old has pressures that high. i have a "dip" in the optic nerve in one eye and that eye hurts quite often.

i guess i was just wondering if people still always go blind from it (always assumed the astigmatism that i have would get my sight first!;)) or if some miracle treatment has been able to peserve any vision. and how painful will it get? will it get much more painful than were it is? i hear it does but what is going on now is tolerable (as long as a close my tight every once in awhile and look stupid:D) any info anyone has would be good to know.

I though that astigmatism just made things blurry. I didn't know that it can take my vision. I have very bad astigmatism. When the doctor covered up my left eye I could read the chart no problem. Then when he cover my right I could not even read the fist letter on the chart. It looked like the room was spinning. I hope that it does not get any worse. I also got tested for glocomma and mine is ok. I also have something wrong with the muscle in my right eye. I have to wait until Nov. to see a specialist.

i dont know if astigmatism does anymore but when i first got glasses 22 years ago with how bad my astigmatism is the technology then wasnt going to help. i think i heard there is corrective surgery now but why bother with that if glocomma is going to be a problem anyhow. good luck with the specialist.

First, glaucoma doesn't hurt unless your eye pressure skyrockets (to >50) in a short period of time. A pressure of 25, especially if it built up over a long period, shouldn't cause any pain. Second, there's no reason you should go blind from it. Something like 80% of glaucoma can be managed medically, ie pressure reducing eye drops. The biggest reason people lose vision due to glaucoma is because they never went to their eye doctor and were never diagnosed. And those that are diagnosed far too often don't use their medication as directed and end up losing vision. My advice: see your eye doctor when you're supposed to, don't miss appointments, and if you're prescribed some medication, use it as directed and enjoy your eyesight for a long time. It's really all about compliance.

And in case your wondering, the 20% or so that can't be controlled medically can usually be controlled with glaucoma surgery.
