View Full Version : Undiagnosed Brain Lesions

My father has fluid filled lesions on many lobes of his brain.
His condition gradually deteriorated, beginning with fatigue, then loss of peripheral vision, an finally motor skills. He barely gets around with a walker. He has had CT scans, MRIs and a biopsy. So far, the doctors have only been able to rule out things. I'm tired of hearing what it isnt. We have ruled out tumors, cancer, viruses and bacteria. The day after his first biopsy he was on steroids and was much better. In the weeks while we were waiting the viral analysis results he was off the steroids and he went from getting around okay on his own to not being able to get out of his chair. Now he is on steroids, but still is having trouble getting around. He is fine to talk to, his memory is okay and he still answers all the questions on Jeopardy. But when he can walk he can't find his way around the house. I read the string posted back in 2003 and it sounds all too familiar and very discouraging:

My concern is what to do if tomorrows biopsy comes back with no results.
Does anyone have a similar experience or can anyone suggest a good place for another opinion on the dozens of tests and scans he had over the past 3 months? Perhaps we've made progress since these old postings.

Okay, Dad just came out of surgery and the preliminary report is that it is a brain tumor and not a parasite. Just this past friday, it definately was not a tumor and may be a parasite.

I understand that it is difficult to diagnose, but this see-saw is tearing my family apart.

Good luck to you on the sugery. I hope everything goes well. It is surprising how common tumors seem to be when talking to people.
Dad has taken on the position that he needs to help himself. He is going to physical therapy to help his walking.
