To keep a long story short, I have worn contacts for the past 15 years with no problem. I got Lasik in my left eye in '98 and hated it so I wear a contact in my right eye. No problem until 3 years ago.
I was diagnosed with everything from blepharitis, dry eye, Episcleritis, ocular Rosacea, etc. It's getting old.
I can't wear my contact and wearing glasses with one good eye is tough. It is getting very annoying and I can't see very well.
I've been to many doctors, including an eye hospital in my city....about 20 times, no lie and have a new appt with a new dr on Monday. It feels like it is my eye lid that hurts when I have the contact in.
I've tried the scrubs, restasis, etc...does it sound like I'm hopeless?
I'm 31 and just want to be able to see again.

wow, you have worn contacts longer than I been alive, not really I'm 17. I'm having a lot of problems and I'm very young. Very conflicting stuff, I'm seeing flashes but it's a 'migrane' says one doctor, 'high blood pressure' says another. I'm hanging in there, just keep attacking the problem and don't give up.

Do you have the dry eye, Roseacea, etc. in both eyes? Can you tell me more, please, like why you can see with only one eye when you wear glasses. Thanks.

I can see in both eyes, but the one is 20/20 and the other is not, so the brain has trouble when you wear glasses...even if it's just glass in one eye.
I have dry eyes in both, but don't care about the left b/c I don't need a contact in that. I can deal with pain, it's not being able to wear my contact that bothers me so much. I don't have the best vision so I feel like I miss out on a lot. Plus I do some modeling, so it's no fun not seeing.
I don't miss out on that much b/c of this. I just had brain surgery that went pretty bad, so this has been having to wait a bit while I recovered. But I see a new dr on Monday. I'm sure she'll just blame allergies...we'll see!

yeah, I have 20/20 in one eye so I think I can get you. That sucks, it kind of comforts me to know that someone is worse off than me, but I also feel sad that someone is.

Hi Stefanie!
Is the dryness worse in the eye that you had lasik on? I had lasik about 11 months ago and I didn't know that I had blepharitis until after that. Now I have very dry eyes... still hoping that they improve. My doctor has suggested that the best thing to do is keep up with the warm compresses and lid scrubs (twice a day) I've heard that you can get it under control. I also take a fish oil or flaxseed oil supplement, which might help you. It helps with your tear quality. Also, have you tried plugs?

Hello. I have dry eye in both, but the one that bothers me the most is in the non-Lasik eye.
I do the scrubs, use drops, and take Flax Seed. I've had plugs and tried it all....nothing helps.
I was diagnosed with Blethiscritis as well and that's when I started the scrubs.
I guess I'll have to see what this new eye doctor says on Monday. I'm sure the same stuff as the others. It just makes no sense. No problem with eyes for years, and then this. ugh

There is hope for all of you. It will take patience and time to succeed. It took about 2 1/2 years to clear my blepharitis, still have dry eyes but under control.
It is possible to recover.
I still do soaks/scrubs in hopes of avoiding a relapse.
Plugs and Restasis has been a big help for the dry eyes.
Remember, if you use Restasis you still need to use other eye drops for moisture. Wait 5 minutes after Restasis before using another eye drop for moisture. Use drops frequently and never let the eyes dry out. Just because the eyes do not feel dry does not mean they are not dry.

I tried Restasis years ago when it first became popular. It burned the heck out of my eyes to the point of me having to stop. I tried it for three weeks I think before giving up.
I had plugs and they helped a bit. Maybe I'll have to get them again.
I use Genteal gel at night and in the middle of the night they still feel dry and I have to use it again...

Went to new eye dr today. She was nice. I am currently wearing Acuvue Oasys in my one eye. As of this moment, it's ok. But the test will be seeing if I can wear them all day and from then on. If they don't work, I go in for plugs (again) and then to another specialist who fits you with lenses. She's at the eye hospital near me.
I hope these work, but I'm not too optimistic...I've been down this road before. We'll see.
She also feels that the trigeminal neuralgia I have (why I had the brain surgery in Jan) may be causing pain in my eye as well. Makes sense, but there is nothing that can be done about that.
