Hi everyone
I had my gallbladder removed June 20th. I felt great for a few weeks. Now I feel like I never even had the surgery. I have the same bloated feeling and pain that I was having. Some one mentioned that maybe there were stones in my ducts that the surgeon didn't see. I am hoping thats not the case. It has gotten so bad that I am going to call the doctor tomorrow. Has any one else had this same thing happen to them?
What kind of tests can they do to check?
It doesn't seem to matter whether I eat or not. I go to sleep with the "fat" feeling and wake up with it.
Its there no matter what I eat.
I am so angry about this!

Gallbladder surgery didn't change my life at all. I have all of the symptoms than before surgery. I had surgery in jan of 99.

Wow Dianne I am so sorry to hear that. I would like to know why that is. Several people have said that they feel great now that they have had it removed. Then there are others like us that still have the same symptoms. Its just not fair, there I want to whine a little bit. I am wondering if the surgeon did not remove all the stones. I do hate to go back in there and check.
Has anyone else had this same experience? Please tell me what has been done and what can be done.
Thankyou

Hi Suds,
It upset me to hear that your having some discomforts now..you were doing so great. I agree that you should call your Dr. about it. I'm still having a problem too, & just had another CT-scan of the uppergastric area where my problem seems to be stemming from, & also the pelvis area to see if there is anything else going on. I still have a problem with pain after eating.
I've spoken to many people that has had our surgery, & every one has had either similar or indifferent problems after GB removal. One of the similar ones was the Bloating you were describing, & some say it comes & goes, & could take a while for it to dissipate.
I guess it's a possibility of some gravel or something still passing through your ducts. I asked my Gastro that question also,& he said, no, but had me do another CT-scan anyway. I would definitely consult the Dr about. Besides a CT-scan, I think an ERCP test would be more conclusive as to have to determine if there were stones in the ducts.
I'm no expert, but I would think that your just having some aftermath from the surgery. I recall you saying your Mom had the same symptoms (how is she?) Perhaps, something your eating may be giving you some kind of reaction ..even a couple of days after. Sometimes I also get that distended bloated feeling, out of nowhere. I went to sleep with it last night.. Have you tried sticking to bland low fat or no fat foods for a while, & see if that makes a difference? I also stoped taking my Nexium meds as sometimes the PPI's on a daily basis can contribute stomach ailments. I did feel better after I stopped them. Please keep us posted...Do call your Dr.

Hi Sandy
Thanks for the encouraging words. I hope that you are right. I did call the surgeon and she called me back tonight. She said that my ducts were good at the time but it is possible that I have formed new stones or have some sludge in there and that I should not be feeling what I am feeling. She said that she wants an ultrsound done, then if it shows any enlargement of the ducts she will send me to a gastro. She also mentioned something about going down your throat like an endoscpic to remove it. Arrghhhhghhghg. What is an ERCP? I have not had any of these invasive tests done. All I had done before was just the ultrasound. I want to get to the bottom of this but I don't know how far I want to go.
I will keep you posted.
Thanks for asking about my mom. she is not doing well. she hasn't recovered from this surgery at all. It has affected his diabetes badly. Her potassium levels went off the charts and she ended up in the hospital for a week. She has had bad diarhea since the surgery so she has lost tons of weight. I feel so bad for her. But I don't think that she has the pain after eating and the bloating any more, I hate the bloating part. It hurts to sit and bend etc...
talk to you soon.
I am sorry to hear that you are not doing well either.
tell me all about the other tests so that I can be prepared.

Hi, Sudzie. I am so sorry that you're not feeling good after your GB surgery. Fortunately for me I didn't have the symptoms after surgery you're having, but I did have significant worsening of my IBS-D afterwards, which you already knew about from my previous posts. I've heard of that ERCP test, but I don't know anything about it. I'm sure others on the board can tell you.

I will continue to send good wishes and thoughts and hope that you will find your answers. I'm so sorry that you & Sandy have not had good success with your surgery. Unfortunately, surgery results can never be guaranteed to be successful, but I will hope & pray that you & Sandy will find answers and relief.

Keep me posted,
Katie G

Sudzie,

I have had similiar problems as has Sandy. After taking my gall bladder out, it seems that was not the problem in the first place. I have done a lot of research on ERCP among other tests, etc. Click on the site below and it will explain the ERCP.

Thankyou for that wonderful site. It really explained things so that I could understand it. I hope not to have to have it done..It doesn't sound like much fun :0)
Please tell me what your syptoms are and what has been done.
I am wondering if I have over did myself. I have taken it easy for the past couple of days and the pain has eased up. I was going like a maniac to make up for lost time with house work etc..I don't know how long we have to take it easy. My surgery was June 29th.
Katie good to hear from you, I hope that your vacation went well.

thanks again
