View Full Version : Cost of IVF?

I noticed someone in another thread mentioned her IVF cost over $50,000 and was wondering if others could share their costs of IVF and region of the country. I had NO idea that IVF was that expensive. I was thinking more along the lines of $8,000-10,000. Don't know if IVF will even be an option if it is always that expensive. I do have insurance, but it doesn't cover IVF, and doesn't cover injectable medications (only pills). Any input would be appreciated.

I think the person who mentioned it was over $50,000 included ICSI (hope that's the right acronym). Just thought I'd throw that out there... I have no idea either and have no insurance for it so if IUI out of pocket doesn't work after 3 tries we're giving up.
Good question, though.

Doesn't this insurance thing SUCK?!?! We too don't have any IVF coverage...UGH! But we just started IVF and our RE's office has a cost sharing program. We paid $22,000...yes all up front:(...but this gives us 3 fresh cycles and 3 frozen cycles over an 18mo period and if after all cylces have been used and we haven't had a viable pregnancy...then we get a large % of the $$$ refunded. Otherwise if we did it on an individual cycle basis...it would have been around $15,000 per cycle. So we figure we don't have anything to lose...if we get pregnant in the first cycle, GREAT:) and so what if we spent $7000 more b/c we'd be prego. BUT if we don't get pregnant the first cycle by the time we got to the 2nd we would have already saved $8000.
Hope this helps...but definitely check with your RE's office, a lot of them have the cost sharing. Also we have found that Dollar Bank and Capital One have infertility loans. GOOD LUCK!!!
PS: We also have to do ICSI which is not included in the $22K but I think it's something like $1000 per fresh cycle....plus it doesn't include meds but depending on your "infertility" diagnosis it will vary. Luckily they haven't found anything abnormal with me so I am on low doses PLUS we were lucky my RE's office actually gave us the Bravelle and Menopur so all we had to buy was the Lupron, HCG trigger, PIO with all the supplies and it came to $300.

Here is the cost estimate for IVF from my clinic:
Dr's cost that includes: cycle management, transvaginal ultrasounds, oocyte retrieval, embriotransfer - $3928
Laboratory Cost: Endocrinology Lab, Andrology Lab and Embryology Lab - $2650
Surgery Center: Oocyte retrieval, embryo transfer and anesthesia - $1400
Medications - $2500
Special Services: Extended culture of embryos to blastocyst: $575, Intracytoplasmic sperm injection < 10 oocytes $1500 >10 $2000.
By my calculations about $12553.00 excluding ICSI. Arkansas is a mandatory state and pays up to $10 000 in a life time. 80% in network and 60% out of network.
Hope this helps

Thanks a lot for the replies. It's amazing to see how much it all adds up to be a decent chunk of change! I have heard of the cost sharing program, but I don't think my RE's office has it available, although there are experimental IVF treatments available for free (excluding certain meds). I just don't know how comfortable I am with experimental either! But I could always switch RE's if necessary to another I know that does offer cost sharing. We'll see. Good luck to everyone, both with affording treatments and getting the BFP we all want!! :)
