I got an ear infection last wed. and the doctor put me on ear drops and antibiotics and ive been taking them i dont think the ear drops went in...i would lay on my side for hours and they never went in, but i didnt really have the pain anymore and the doctor said they would help with the pain so maybe some of it did go in, but anyways i havn't been able to hear out of that ear since last Wed. does anyone know if this is normal? I want my hearing back its stressing me out but i don't know what to do. Thanks

If this was last Wed, depending on what anitibiotic you were given, it probably didn't work. The antibiotic alone should cure the infection. Drops are given to reduce swelling/pain, and pressure. There also medicated and help sooth. My advice would be, head back to your doctor and get a different antibiotic and make sure you do the drops 3-4 times a day in that ear. And yes 99% of the time your hearing will come back, (I have had dozens of nasty infections, sometimes in both ears) and it always comes back, despite the pain and discomfort. Good Luck!

I've had some *terrible* ear infections over the past 5-6 months...4 of them. :p So yeah, if you don't feel any better, go back to the doc. And yes, your hearing will come back. Sometimes though, the fluid stays in your ear for a while, even though the infection might be gone...so that makes it hard to hear!

I recently had an ear infection and was unable to hear out of the ear. Unbeknownst (sp) to me, my eardrum had ruptured and I never knew it. I knoew the pain had gotten better, and that's why. The pressure was released when it ruptured. I don't know if that's what you have, just telling you about my experience with that. Hope they can help you, ear infections are horrible!

There was no pus coming out when it ruptured? That's what happens to me.

Well I never know because I have constant drainage from my ears, had it for years. I found out at the doctors that it had ruptured and then i remembered when it probably happened. I was blowing my nose and my ear popped and it hurt like an SOB but I just thought it popped
