My gums are really sore today along with some pressure on certain teeth. I wonder if this is from the mouth piece used yesterday during the endoscopy. Did anyone else have this happen to them after their endoscopy?

You know its funny that you should say that, but I am also having tooth pain. It alternates between my upper right hand side molars and a tooth that I have had two root canals on. I went to my dentist today and he didn't see anything in my xrays so I am going to an endodontist Thurs. I thought that I was going to need root surgery, but maybe it has something to do with the endoscopy. What does your pain feel like?

Eve,
It feels like there is pressure on my top front teeth, and my gums are sore along the bottom of my mouth. It doesn't hurt or feel like a cavity, it's much different. Let me know what your specialist says.

Hi taape,

The endodontist wants to do an apicoectomy (endodontal surgery) on a bottom molar that I previously had a root canal on. So I am guessing it is not related to the endoscopy. Although, I am still quite upset, because they biopsy your root and I will have to wait for those results as well. I am still waiting for the GI results and I just can't take all this waiting. I also wonder if all the problems I am having are related. Maybe I do not have GERD at all and maybe I have some weird sinus disease, or even something worse. I just can't take all these problems at once! Do you know if the endoscopy also checks for mouth cancer? I am beginning to feel like a hypochondriac lately.

Eve,
I know what you mean about being overwhelmed by medication problems. You shouldn't have to wait for the endoscopy results as the doctor could see what was going on right during the procedure. I would call the doctor's office and request that you are faxed a copy of the doctor's report, even if it's not the final draft and hasn't yet been signed and approved by whomever. I am lucky because my doctor handed it to me on my way out. Also, I had a phone consult with him today since I was sort of out of it when he came to the post op area to talk with me.

My gums are fine today, I think it was pressure from the mouth piece that caused the pain. What is an apicoectomy? Is it a biopsy? I don't think the endoscopy checks for mouth cancer but that's usually done at the dentist. I'm sorry you are having to wait on all this. Let us know when you get your results.

Hi Tappe, An apicoectomy is oral surgery. It involves cutting into the gumline and I think the bone (gross) of a tooth that has had a root canal and still hurts. The endodontist seals the root of your tooth and clears away any infectious tissue and then the tissue is sent for a biopsy. Normally dental stuff doesn't scare me so much, but because of all of the GERD symptoms that I have been having as of late, I can't help but wonder if it's all connected and that I am missing something. My appointment is next Wednesday, I will keep you posted.
