My Dh and I were talking about IVF and the costs, and the idea of adopting an embryo (and implanting in me) from a couple who has done IVF and who has their embyros frozen came up. Does anyone know if it's the same costs as IVF? cheaper?

I am not an expert, but I just did IVF and I would think it would be cheaper. The breakdown the office gave me had most of the cost coming from the egg retrieval and meds which you won't have to have. You will have to do some meds but not the stimulating ones that cost a fortune. KM is doing a frozen transfer so I am sure it would be similar to her costs. Do you pay to adopt an embryo or are they donated?
Cheaper. You won't have take the drugs to stimulate your ovaries to overproduce. You'll just have to take the projesterone suppositories post-op. But I don't know about the cost of adopting an embryo.

Pinkie if you do actually find out the actual cost of adopting the embryo not even the cost of the procedure but the actual embryo adoption I think that would be very interesting information to have. No where on the web have I been able to find that info. Educating yourself is always a good thing and of course after all our attempts that we are going to take with IVF ourselves to get a bio child that is a possibility you know what I mean if all else fails. Being able to give birth and experience that is still awesome.

One of my girlfriends is having her second IVF ( from her frozen embryos) and she said the cost is cheaper. But, yes, I don't know the cost of the actual adoption price. I'll try and do some research on it

I have researched this in the past and just tonight I looked it up for you again. There is a christian adoption agency that is managing adoption of frozen embrios. They call the frozen embies "snowflakes" each one being unique like a snowflake. The agency cost $5000 out of state- they are located in California. You would need a home study do not know how much that would cost and would make a profile of yourself like you would for open adoption as the biological family choose the couple who will adopt there "snowflakes" Focus on the family was involved in pioneering this program. You would then also have the cost of the transfer and other medical costs as you would have with a FET. They have an time frame from joining the agency to the time of the transfer 6 - 14 months.
On their website they have some precious pictures of some babies born the most recent twins born in April 2006.
