hello. I was hoping to get some advice for my finace'.
We have been together and completely momogoums for about 5 years. I tested negative last summer, but he has never been tested.
Recently he has been feeling sick and a few Dr visits he woulnd up at the ear nose throat guy who says that he is showing all the signs of GERD or acid reflux disease.
The ENT gave Rx for stuff to help with GERD but has also Rx an HIV test.
Now, I am a huger worrier, hence the screen name. Can anyone help with my questions?
If my finance' had been infected some 10 years ago and been completely untreated, wouldn't he most likely be showing much more sever symptoms at this point? Like wouldn't he have lost tons of weight and been severely ill by this point?
Thank you!

I sincelerely hope that I did not offend anyone with my initial post. That was never my intention, but after rereading what I wrote it looks a little crass.
I'm just so worried and I don't know what else to do until I can get him to have a test and know for sure. I tried calling CDC, but of course they are not able to give any advice other than "be sure to get tested ASAP and abstain from sex until the true status is known"
I must ask again if anyone would possibly have any insight as to whether this sounds like someone who has been infected with HIV for 11 years. I read that t-cells reduce at a rate of 50-75 per year in most cases of untreated HIV, so that would put him at 200 or below I think.
But he has not lost any weight or strength. He has been overweight at about 220 for as long as I can remember. He never has fevers and never has strange outbreals on his skin. he does get pretty tired most days, butnot to the point where he has ever been bedridden bacuase of it.
Wouldn't symptoms of an OI be much more severe at this point?
I don't know, maybe I'm answering my own questions here, but I really could use some encouragement until I can know for sure.
My hands are shaking as I type and I haven't been able to eat or sleep...
Thank you for any replies!

there are lots of things that could be wrong with him
as far as if he would have had it for ten years with no treatment...maybe but maybe not
i cannot answer that
i would think but dont know
as long as you were tested than dont worry but id get him tested...as he is being and then id get retested if i were you
i worry to...read some of my threads...lol

Yes, I would think that if he'd gone that long without any meds and without any treatment at all and without any symptoms that he could gain *some* comfort in that. BUT, it doesn't guarantee anything (only a test will do that) as you know.
But, I'm sure everything will be fine for you and for him.
God bless,
Cali

thank you vianna. I think just getting a reply and knowing that someone is there helps, you know.
And I have read your threads :p
I want to wish you good luck today! But based on the fact that the Dr. can't NOT tell you if you were postive, I think you are going to be just fine.
Go out and celebrate with your friend after you get the good news

sorry i keep posting here but I feel like i have no one else to talk to about this.
I finally took hin to get the blood work done this evening so now we just wait. I'm sure this must be way tougher on him than it is on me (before we went to get the test he downed a whole big drink which he never does), and I feel so selfish for the way I keep panicing over the whole thing. I've been trying to keep my anxiety to myself, but i'm sure he sees it.
I said something to him about asking if the hospital lab did rapid tests. this way we could have the resultsin like 20 minutes and be done with it (I hope), but he didn't go for it.
Some ppl say results can take like 2 weeks to get back to you, but mine only took like 2 or 3 days. Hopefully this time will be the same.
Oh boy. I'm scared.
I anybody is still reading this  I'm still wondering, would a person who has always had some sort of health problem, like asmtha and stuff be more susseptable to Oppurtunistic Infections in the latenceny stage and early advance stage of HIV? cuz that is the kind of guy we're talking about here.
And how about physical trama. Like a back car accident, or being shot?
