They say that ginger aids in digestion - but if you take too much of it (say 4 to 6 capsules a day for a week or so) could that cause stomach lining inflamation?

Yes, ginger does aid digestion and I have just started taking ginger capsules to help my stomach. Why have you been taking 4-6 caps a day? I have just started taking one a day.

Are you having pains in your stomach because of this? It is possible that they could cause gastritis, as in terms of Chinese Medicine, ginger is a heat producing food and adds heat to the body. If you have heat in your stomach, heat can cause stagnation and that in turn can cause you to have stomach pains.

Try leaving the capsules out for a bit and seeing if your stomach is better. Reintroduce and take one capsule a day if it is, but find some other alternative if it is not. Aloe juice is very good for your stomach too.

Hope this helps?

It said on the bottle you could take 1 or 2 capsules daily , 2 times a day as needed. I needed a lot... I was taking it for a nervous stomach. But then I began getting severe heartburn and indigestion. I forgot to ask the doctor if this could have been the cause, so I thought I'd ask the board http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif No, no pain at all, anywhere. (she blamed it on extra acid from nerves)I havn't been taking them for about 4 weeks and am still having a problem, but it's going away SLOWLY (with Prilosec)

my method is, too much if anything can hurt you-just find what works and is a safe amount. The most ginger ive taken in a day is 4 550mg capsules, but that was a couple of days i felt really nauseated. ON a normal day ill take 2 capsules. Try not to over do it, but use a good safe amount.

Too much of anything is bad for you. Ginger is good for you but be careful because too much is bad for your liver.

Use ginger in moderation. If you use too much, it will burn the lining of your esophagus. It is very potent in small amounts, that's all you need. Though I've never taken capsules, I do drink ginger tea and sometimes its juice. But in very small amounts in which I dilute the juice with water as well =)
