Hi, I am 20 years old, and I have been having throat infections for over a year now (starting March of 2005). My primary doc just kept on giving me anitbiotics, I would have a throat infection EVERY week. Then in March 2006 I had my tonsills removed; however, I am still getting throat infections. When I am on antibiotics my throat clears up a little bit, but bounces right back the first day I am off of the meds. My throat has bumps in the back of it and white spots everywhere, even where my tonsills used to be. I also have a low-grade fever everyday, swollen lymph nodes, swollen gums (but good oral hygiene), extreme fatigue, and severe chills and night sweats. I had a CT of my neck, chest, and abdomen and nothing was wrong.

I am very, very sorry this is so long, but I just really need help. Thank you for your time!!

Thank you sooo much for your reply, that was very kind of you to take the time. I have had a mono test and it was negative, but I will get tested for the others that you mentioned, thank you.

I really appreciate anyones advice or similiar experiences. I really need to figure this out because I feel sicker and more exhausted every day.

I was just wondering if you found any answers. I had my tonsils removed on May 3rd after chronic strep/tonsilitis over the past year. I recovered really well, but two weeks ago my throat became red, sore, swollen, etc. My ENT gave me an antibiotic and it got better, but now is starting to get worse again. I have the same symptoms you described - swollen glands, red/swollen throat, extreme fatigue. I hope you found some answers.

I was having the same problem. Sore throat, painful lymph node, etc. Had 3 courses of antibiotics in 6 months, doctors are jackasses, they just kept giving me antibiotics.

Until I found my current doc who is great, he was trained in the USSR and does things "differently."

Basically the first thing he told me was : "don't put fingers in your mouth to check for bumps, you will just infect them." Which was true, I was putting a finger in my throat to feel the bumps.

Second thing he did was prescribe me antibiotics (ugh!)

Third thing was he told me to gargle 4-5 times a day with a solution of 1 cup water to 1 teaspoon baking soda.

The water and baking soda works well.

Another thing that works is gargling for 30 seconds with listerine twice a day. Make sure its 30 second, when I gargle for 10-15 sec it doesn't seem to help as much.

Here's the ultimate thing that really helped.

Boil water, put it in a pot, throw a towel over your head and inhale the steam through your mouth. I *SWEAR* this helps me so much, my post nasal drip is pretty much GONE, I dont even use the baking soda gargle anymore. My throat feels like its old self.

Best of Luck
