I do not want to scare anyone with my post. But, on day 12 I started to bleed from my throat. Not just a scant amount but a lot. I called 911 & got a ride to the hospital. Finally about one hour after the ride to the hossy & an hour wait in the ER I got taken up to surgery again. I had another surgery (basically like starting over to a lesser extent, they use the same techniques to stop the bleeding that they use the remove the tonsils) at 10:30 p.m. this past Monday night the 12th. It was scary b/c it felt like I was losing so much but my blood count after the episode was pretty good. I was alittle bit anemic but not enough to cause alarm. I am tired, shaky, emotionally a mess, still having troubles with the doctor's office re: pain relief.
Monday was my best day yet, I had been able to finally taper off the narcotics to every 6-7 hours. I felt great then BAM, that hit me. I go to the surgeon tomorrow for my 2 week appt. for the 1st surgery. What they sent me home with (after the surgeons' nurse told my hossy nurse that I'd probalby not need it but they'd Rx it just in case) was 100 cc of Lortab. So, once again I am back in pain, it is not as bad as previous when my entire throat was sore but my left side of my throat hurts pretty bad & my ear is ouch! Can't open my mouth fully, jaw aches.
I actually called my own primary doctor today & got into see the nurse practioner about the anxiety & pain med issue. She said I need to insist on a plan of action for pain relief. If I don't get help from the surgeon's office I am to call my primary doc again. I just pray that it all works out b/c I have a feeling that I will NEED pain meds a bit longer then everyone had planned. I feel like telling them, wouldn't it be nice if you could fit all your patients in a tidy little box of how things should go? Well I don't quite fit. I took my pain meds every 4 hours at the max dose b/c I had to or else my pain was going up to 7-8 on pain scale. So, of course my pain meds got used up. It's so frustrating. I felt sort of like maybe I was the crazy one here so my visit with my nurse today was really helpful & therapeutic & helped me to feel like I have some control over the situation.
Hoping it goes ok tomorrow.
