A new study has just come out which says that people who are taking daily Corticosteroids for Asthma are at an increased risk for cataracts, and that risk is very high after 65. It was in Forbes Magazine. The study recommends if patients are prescribed an inhaled corticosteroid, they should try a long-acting bronchodilator or anti-leukotriene combination therapy to reduce the risk of cataracts. I know I've started going to my optholmologist twice a year instead of once, since I've been on the Pulmicort. It's a good idea to keep up to date with your eye exams, and let your Dr. know about your steroid use. :)
