Sponsor Super Sarah 09-02-2002, 10:06 AM Zelnorm (Tegaserod Maleate) is a new drug that has just gained FDA approval. It is for the short-term treatment of women who suffer from the constipation form of IBS also with stomach pains and bloating.
Unfortunately, its safety and effectiveness has not been established in men. Basically, it works by linking into the Serotonnin receptor cites, as it is now well know that the motor and sensory functions of the gut are altered in those who have IBS. One of the chemicals that affects the gut is also know to be Serotonnin, plus other chemicals. It should not be taken if there is any previous history of kidney or liver problems, bowel obstruction or gallbladder problems and it is not indicated for cases of IBS with diarrhea. suzyshop1 10-20-2002, 04:02 AM Im taking zelnorm now,i alternate between diahrrea and constipation.Since ive been using it,it seems to make me have more frequent bowel movements without straining as much.It usually makes you go to the bathroom soon as you get up in the morning,Also alot of times after you eat it does the same thing. Also it makes the stools more formed and easy to pass.
